NextBolt High Security NX5 Biometric Lock Finish: Satin Nickel: Opinions

I ordered this lock because it was by far the most aesthetically appealing lock I had found. I didn't want a keypad style because I had no interest in changing the codes or having people looking over my shoulder and watching me punch in the code. Additionally, I find the keypad locks kind of ugly and I don't want my house to look bad just so that it can be secure.

Before the pros and cons, here's a quick rundown of more information.
-The lock cylinder is a chinese knockoff of a Mul-T-Lock mortise cylinder, not a relatively standard KIK cylinder.
-The keys are chinese knockoffs of Mul-T-Lock dimple keys which are easy to make impressions of and to pick.
-The impact sensor is not a vibration or shock sensor
-The users are not easily added or deleted

Pros:
-The finish is nicely done
-The fingerprint scanner seems to be very accurate
-it kind of does what it's supposed to do

Cons:
-The deadbolt assembly itself looked used when I took it out of the box, the nickel finish was worn and the mechanism was rusty
-The screws to attach the two sides of the lock to the door are cheap and I snapped one installing it (see below)
-The holes the screws thread into are threaded collars/tubes that are pressed into the backing plate of the outside of the lock, these tubes aren't well pressed in and sometimes rotate. Additionally the tubes arent perpendicular to the backing plate and are slanted to some degree making it difficult to thread the screws in without bending them into alignment, which further compromises their security since they're pressed in. Lastly, they're not well positioned and force the bolt assembly to be at a slight angle in the hole, which further exascerbates the issue of getting the screws to thread.
-The top screws require two holes to be drilled above the normal deadbolt hole. This isn't an issue in and of itself, but its not mentioned anywhere, so beware of the fact that if you revert to a different lock in the future, there will be two holes through the door. If you're OCD like I am, that means you'll be buying a new lock and a new door.
-The sliding cover does a lot to improve the look of the lock, but it feels flimsy and there's quite a bit of play in it, i expected more from a $300 lock
-The impact alarm is a joke, I half expected it to be a shock sensor of some sort, but it's actually just a microswitch that presses up against the door. The lock would have to be pried away or broken off of the door for it to sound. The alarm itself is not loud, it's similar to the "room alarm" spy toys sold for kids. I wouldn't expect it to alert anyone of anything.
-The instructions are garbage, expect to go to Advanced Actuators' website and watch their videos and talk to their tech support, possibly numerous times. Trying to use the three pages of poorly translated instructions that contradict themselves will just infuriate you.
-Programming the lock isn't a fun experience, which is almost entirely due to the bad instructions in general. The lock may be capable of having 99 fingerprints, but keep in mind that you probably want to add more than one of your fingers just incase. Adding addition fingerprints requires you to input button combinations that are progressively ridiculous. The first user is "ADD" the second is "ADD then DEL" the fifth is "ADD DEL ADD ADD DEL" and so on and so forth, so you'd have to keep a long list with the applicable button combinations and not screw it up when you're trying to add or delete a particular user. I'd gladly pay another $100 to have an LCD screen in the battery compartment that I could scroll through to add/delete people.
-Unlike a traditional deadbolt, the inside thumb latch/lever is directly attached to the motor. Even though it doesn't explicitly say that using the thumb lever causes damage, it seems like it would and sometimes the motor fights your efforts to close the lock manually. Using the small inside button at the top of the thumb lever that electrically closes the deadbolt is counter intuitive at best and is going to take a while for my family to get used to.
-The keys are Chinese knockoffs of Mul-T-Lock dimple keys that feel very cheap, like the keys you used to get in the mail from car dealerships where you'd win the car if your key unlocked it. Dimple keys are very easy to make impressions of and pick, vulnerable to all the same basic lock picking tactics that normal keys fall victim to, not what I was expecting with a "high security lock". I plan on changing the lock cylinder out because of this. The lock uses a mortise lock cylinder and not a KIK lock cylinder.
-There's a two pronged brace that extends into the door from the outside half of the lock that goes through the deadbolt assembly, these prongs had to be bent quite a bit to line up with the deadbolt assy and the screws that attach this brace to the outside half of the lock thread into flimsy threaded sheetmetal, which in my case, was already stripped out in one hole.

Conclusion:
All that being said, I'd probably buy this lock again, especially if I could have found a review listing all these issues so that I knew what I was getting into. I plan to correct most of the problems I had by replacing the threaded tubes with welded nuts, installing steel screws, replacing the dimple lock cylinder/keys with Abloy components, and possibly machining a tighter cover and adding a real shock sensor and louder alarm, all things that I'd expect from a lock thats described as being high security and costing $300.
