I've had about 15 IEM's ranging in price from around $70 to $300 and the Ortofon e-Q5 beats them all. Its hard to believe a single BA can be so much better than double and triples but this one does.

Lets start at the bottom with the bass. The bass is a lot like a fast dynamic driver and thats because these don't have a regular balanced armature, its a moving armature which is a cross between a BA and dynamic driver. Its gives the bass good punch and extension along with good depth, more than any other single BA I've heard. It really does sound like a good analytical dynamic driver in the bass which is awesome.

Now for the mids which are detail and lush. I had the e-Q7 which had much more forward mids that I couldn't really get into but the e-Q5's mids are more balanced with the rest of the frequencies. They're detailed with a unique sound but that has to do with the soundstage and we'll get to that later. The mids aren't really forward but they do standout a bit more over all yet still very balanced if that makes sense. These have the best presentation of mids I've heard in an IEM.

The highs are much improved over the laid back highs on the e-Q7. They have nice sparkle and detail but aren't harsh at all, a lot like one of my other favorite IEM's the R-50. Now that might not have the micro detail of IEM's like the R-50 or DBA-02 but you still get plenty and they're more fun to listen to as well imo.

Now to my favorite part of the IEM in the soundstage. I can't think of any single BA that even comes close to the size of these, even multi BA's like the TF10 aren't bigger. Its one of the most unique soundstages I've heard because while its got great width, depth and height its still intimate in a way. The IE8 has a very large soundstage but things just sound far away wheres the e-Q5 still is very wide but places you closer to the sound. The TF10 is known for having a very large soundstage but I feel the e-Q5 is a little bigger and more airy sounding which is a big reason why imo.

These are a fantastic IEM and well worth the $250 they sale for here though you can get them for $200 at other places which make them a very good value. With the detail and soundstage these have I can't think of an IEM I've owned or heard that can compete in its price range. I can't recommend these enough they're really that good.
