I ordered the Viper Max 2500 with AmSteel for Arctic Cat 700i through Amazon, and installed it yesterday. I ran into 4 issues during the installation that definitely need to be addressed for the future.

First the half of 1 page installation instructions that came with the winch were exceedingly inadequate, and also wrong. They stated to put the winch in the wrong way so that the cable would have been spooling out toward the back of the bike. Clearly that wasn't correct so I came inside and downloaded the 3 page Arctic Cat instructions from the motoalliance website, and they were correct, although still somewhat lacking. They should add a couple of photos of the orientation of the mounting plate in the bike and what you'll actually be using (not the standard plate which they also include for example) to make it more clear. Part of the confusion above was they also included the standard mounting plate in addition to the Arctic Cat mounting plate, but there was nothing about either listed in the instructions. It took a bit of lining the plates up on the bike to sort out what the standard mounting plate was, and that I wasn't going to be using it at all and didn't need it.

Next is a manufacturing issue. On the Arctic Cat mounting plate there are risers on both sides of the plate, to lift the winch to the proper elevation for the cable to run through the factory fairlead mount on the Arctic Cat frame. The problem is the risers on the winch side of the plate were welded too far forward and were stopping up against a section of the Winch casing that extended beyond the bolt rails by about 1/4”, and preventing the bolt holes from lining up. I tried orienting the mount plate all 4 possibilities, and the only one that came close to the holes lining up for the plate, the Winch, and the frame on the bike, was the one with the risers hitting those 1/4” sections of the Winch case. So I had to use my die grinder and knock off those 1/4” bits of the winch case to get the plate to line up.

Then came the hardware issues. The bolt holes in the winch are metric (8mm if memory serves) and they did send the 8mm ones, but they were the ones for the original mount plate and were too short to make it through the Arctic Cat plate and into the winch. They did also send longer bolts that were the correct length inside the packaging with the Arctic Cat mount plate, but then they were SA bolts, not metric, and of course would not thread into the metric holes on the Winch. That was trip 1 to the hardware store to get the correct length and correct thread bolts.

Last came the fairlead bolt issue. The Arctic Cat 700i GT has a mount on the frame with ready bolt holes for the fairlead. The bolts they sent were probably 12mm though, and the existing bolt holes were 8mm. That necessitated a second trip to the hardware store for the correct sized bolts for the fairlead.

After getting it all installed and testing it, it did work like a charm and was fairly quiet compared to other winches I've used, with smooth operation. I suspect it will be an outstanding winch to use for many years to come, but it's got some installation issues that need to be sorted out before it can rate higher.
