A friend who believes we should be drilling and pumping more oil. I we in the U.
.S l cannot control carbon as energy so we should too why suffer. Renerwable energy cannot replace oil, gas and coal. Besides, he said, wind machines are killing whales
My response, prognostic myopia. As the hydrogen ions increase and oceans warm whales will lose their habitat and die

Rather than build the desperately needed infrastructure projects to collect and store water during the wet years, Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law in 2018 a new water conservation act that will limit each citizen to just 50-55 gallons of water per person per day by 2050.

People forget the winter of 2019 brought 200 percent of average rains and snow pack. Yet the state still held back on water to farmers, and residents are facing rationing, the Globe reported May 2019.

Long ago California decided to repress the knowledge of the primary water cycle and not even let people know it existed. But by considering the Primary water cycle instead of just the atmospheric water cycle, our water shortages would be over. You can check out the primarywaterinstitute.org website as well as a collection of videos I have on my YouTube channel.

I find this so fascinating, it looks as though we have alternatives to capture snow /rain runoff.
Imagine what 30 billion dollars could accomplish if California Water Resources made an effort to use technology to help solve our water crisis.

As a child we had natural springs off a hill side that would just spring water on to the streets.
We also had Black Mountain water near us which no longer exists after it was sold to Crystal Geyser.

Farming practices have evolved and become very efficient. If we do not have farms to produce our food, then we have to import. Is that the goal of our elected representatives? It has also forced once fertile farmland to be deserted by generational farmers! It is criminal in my opinion to flush 81 BILLION GALLONS into the ocean.

The irony that the eco-terrorists have convinced the likes of Jerry Brown and Newsolini to prioritize the delta smelt over our food and water supply is insulting to us all. Tiny fish over the lives of 39 million residents. Sounds fair does it not?
Another solution could have been devised, such as hatcheries or fish farming perhaps.

Remember while you were locked down and told not to visit your lonely grandparents, Gov. Newsom was at a party at the French Laundry where the water and wine was free flowing!
Do you really think any of these, out of touch, self serving government elitists will survive on 50 gallons a day of water?

Bottled water, the designer-look drink that has become a near-universal accessory of modern life, maybe refreshing but certainly not clean. A major study has concluded that its production is seriously damaging the environment.

200Billion Bottles of water are consumed globally each year.Of which 176 billion will end up in landfills and oceans. It costs 10,000 timesmore to create the bottled version than it does to produce tap water. Hugeresources are needed to draw it from the ground, package and distribute.

Barrels of oil are used per year to manufacture bottled water. Pumping, processing, transportation, and refrigeration of bottled water is estimated to use around 50 million barrels of oil every year. This is equivalent to oil that can be used to fuel more than 100,000 cars every year in Africa. The burning of these massive fossil fuels causes atmospheric pollution that contaminates water in our oceans and lakes.

According to a researcher Sherri Mason of the State University of New York, 250 bottles of water tested in Brazil, China, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Thailand, and the United States were contaminated. Plastic particles were identified in the water samples.

Truth is, some of the bottled water you buy is of poor quality than tap water. Standards are not adhered to. A significant number of bottled water sold in Kenya is neither pure nor pristine. Major companies like Coca-Cola admitted that Dasani water-popular in Kenyan markets was contaminated with plastic particles.

In a recent report, Rwanda Standards Board cautioned Rwandans against buying bottled water. This was after the bottled water was found to be contaminated. The board claimed that water business is booming as people trust that the water is pure. However, the report says that people collect bottles from dustbins and fill them with water from any source without the desired standards.

Another risk of bottled water is the threat they pose to aquatic life. After the water has been consumed, the plastic bottle must be disposed of. According to the Container Recycling Institute, 86% of plastic water bottles become garbage or litter. Incinerating bottles produces toxic byproducts such as chlorine gas and ash containing heavy metals. Buried water bottles take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade. This poses a huge threat to the environment.

In addition to the strains bottled water puts on our ecosystem, the rapid growth in this industry means that water extraction is concentrated in communities where bottling plants are located. Water shortages in these areas are common. Farmers, fishers, and others who depend on water for their livelihoods suffer from the concentrated water extraction when water tables drop quickly.

There is no question that clean, affordable drinking water is essential to the health of our global community. But bottled water is not the answer, nor does it solve problems for the 1.2 billion people that lack secure water supply.

Improvingand expanding existing water treatment and sanitation systems is more likely toprovide safe and sustainable sources of water over the long term. In villages, rainwater harvesting and digging new wells can create more affordable sourcesof water.

Wetake water for granted. We waste it. Almost 1.2 billion people around the worlddo not have access to clean water, yet we are happy to pay over the odds forbranded water. Skipping the bottle is one step towards solving the water crisis.

Exposs by InsideClimate News and the Los Angeles Times have confirmed that oil giant ExxonMobil knew as early as the late 1970s that climate change caused by human activities would be devastating if left unchecked.

CLF started its own investigation, focused on how this climate deceit has affected New England communities. Our investigation revealed that, despite knowing the harm climate change could cause, ExxonMobil left its oil storage facilities in Everett, Massachusetts, and elsewhere vulnerable to flooding from storms and rising seas.

We are at a major tipping point in ending the fossil fuel era. Building on several national investigations against ExxonMobil, our lawsuit sets the precedence for the dynamic role of local advocacy in holding big polluters accountable.

Mt Erebus has been erupting continuously over the last few decades. Yet the rather smaller Deception Island, in the South Shetland archipelago, is responsible for the largest known eruption in the Antarctic area.

This horseshoe-shaped cauldron-like structure, or caldera, was produced more than 10,000 years ago by an explosive eruption that scattered more than 30km of molten rock. The result is an enclosed welcoming bay called Port Foster.

Deception was officially discovered by the British sealing captain William Smith in 1820 and was subsequently used for purposes such as seal hunting and whaling before finding its modern calling as a site for science and tourism. Maybe because you cannot see most of the volcano above the sea, tourists rarely appreciate its hidden destructive potential.

The volcanic events at Deception fall into a rare category called subglacial eruptions. The island is situated in a place where there is a glacier on the ocean floor about 100m thick. Scientists would normally expect that if this were hit by lava from below, it would evaporate benignly into steam.

But the lava moving upwards at Deception has several qualities that made things happen differently: it moves slowly and it has high water content. This meant that it turned the glacier into meltwater as well as steam, creating a large overflow of mud to the surface. This was the main cause of the destruction of the UK and Chilean stations.

For a time, scientists thought that Deception might be an unusual example of subduction happening in the ocean. But a more recent hypothesis is that the South Shetlands may be what we call a rift zone. This would mean that it is on a point where plates meet, but instead of colliding, there are gaps from them moving away from each other, creating new oceanic crust in the process. A good example of a rift zone is the Iceland, as can be seen in the video eruption below.

Rifts fill up with the remains of volcanic explosions and other sediment eroded from the margins of the valley. This process is critical for the production of oil. Located at the western edge of the arc, Deception is the ideal place to observe rift processes because of the natural harbour, which shelters scientists from the harsh Antarctic weather.

So Deception could be the key to unveiling how rifts form and where oil is, in places where resources are unexploited. In an era where the political claims to the Antarctic have long since receded, that should ensure that this frozen corner of the world remains important for some time to come.

First discovered in Indonesia in 1998, the mimic octopus (Thaumoctopus mimicus) lives in the shallow waters in the Indo-Pacific. They are relatively small, only about two feet in length, and are pale brown in color with a number of brown and white stripes. Like many other cephalopods, the mimic octopus has color-changing cells, or chromatophores, covering its skin. This allows the animal to quickly change color by expanding or contracting the cells, and ultimately blend into its environment.
