Hi everyone,

I am starting the blood spatter topic, and wanted to use that really cool animation that showed the various types of blood spatter that results from various angles.  I think it was the one entitled "Animation of: Surface Tension and Droplet Cohesion Droplet Displacement, and Impact Angle" on Page 74, but I have no idea what website that is pertaining to.

Anyone know off hand?

Thanks!

Andrea

Andrea,
The website listed on the top of page 74 in the summer forensic binder has changed.
However, you should have a copy of the animation on the disk that we gave you.

You can also locate the website by "googling blood spatter animation"

There is a series of good clips on YouTube as well, just look for blood spatter. I don't remember the names off the top of my head, though.

a few months ago margaret wrote that CSI season 1 episode 105 was good for blood spatter. I am also attaching a link that I used last year.

Just wanted to say that I spent the evening making glass fracture patterns using the technique that bud showed us at the workshop and it worked wonderfully! Now  I just want to get more glass to fracture just to see all of the cool patterns I get!

Thanks so much Bud!

I tried something new yesterday and it worked out extremely well.  I used canned evaporated milk as the base with added food coloring for simulated blood.  I didn't like how the other recipes using Karo syrup were so sticky and so slow to dry  in the blood spatter experiments.  The evaporated milk had the right viscosity and dried nicely.  Just remember to take a can opener to school!

This is awesome; thanks for sharing.  I am just getting to blood this semester, so I’ll give it a try.

To Diane,

Recipe sounds interesting. Will give it a try.

To Andrea,

The animation I think you are seeking is located on your disk from last summer. Open the folder on blood and the screen should look like the attachment. The highlighted area is what you are looking for.

So  I am using this recipe right now and realizing that  I have to use thick paper (I've decided on cut-up manilla folders). Otherwise the drops seem to seperate easily in color when drying. Should I try to put a little karo syrup in the mixture or something else that may hold things together better?

I used regular paper but put it on top of cardboard and didn't have any problems.  I suppose you can try adding Karo but the reason I didn't like it was that it made it very slow drying and sticky.  I guess we have choose our preference.
