Anyone know of movies/ episodes about fingerprints? Thanks!

PS, I had my students use bitstripsforschools.com to create an online
comic strip based on fingerprint evidence. Took about 3 days, so I
counted it as a major grade. Some students were very creative. If I
could add an attachment to this message, I could show you their work.

The New Detectives has a good one called Death Grip which shows the use of metal vacuum deposition, superglue fuming, and the importance of getting good contract for a photograph of a handprint on a rounded ski pole handle.

I would like to see student work using bitstrips if you will send me a personal email to jeannea...@gmail.com? Also, I can't get the vimeo to play either.  As far as The New Detectives, I actually have the DVD that has the "Death Grip" episode;).  Do you have some sort of follow along question sheet or handout to go with that particular episode?

I have one I'd be happy to share.

Unfortunately, I don't have any help to offer; bitstrips was a trial offer that expired and I don't have access to the comic strips made.
Not sure why vimeo doesn't work unless your school blocks it?  Not watched Death Grip either.  Sorry I couldn't help!

Thank you so much!!  There is a really cool website that I have started to post my video questions to at www.moviesheets.com
Here are a couple of attachments for episodes of "Forensics: You Decide".  The Silent Witness and Blood Brothers episodes are great for blood spatter. I have a general form that I use for the episodes as well as a content specific one for the Blood Brothers episode.
Also, if you haven't seen the Crime Scene University set, it's really cool.  It's about college students in Pennsylvania competing in teams against one another in their forensics classes based on crime scene processing, lab techniques and crime scene reconstruction.
It also shows what investigators REALLY wear to process scenes--not the fabulous outfits they show on CSI!!
I also have an At Home Search project that I wrote based on a suggestion by Kathy Mirakovitz in her book.  I have the parent letter, checklist, and rubric if anyone is interested in receiving a copy.

Oh yeah, I am working on a bonus point program using the Mini-Mysteries in all the back and current issues of The Forensic Teacher.  I have created Mystery Money that will be distributed to students who correctly solve the mini mystery each Friday.  I am working on it as we speak, but if you would like a copy, please let me know.  I ordered the CD with all the back issues of The Forensic Teacher for about $30 and it is well worth it!

Jeanne,
I would love a copy if you don't mind sharing.  This all sounds pretty exhausting.  So what can the kids do with their Mystery Money?

Ooooo, I would love to see your project. And I'll take a look at that moveiesheets site. I have a much longer, more detailed worksheet for the Death Grip video. I teach a wide range of students so it helps walk them through the video. I may change a few questions, though and put in Diane's:-) In any case, thanks for the suggestions. I love those FYTD videos, but have only seen the one with the priest killing a nun and the one with the guy who killed his wife, or was it suicide by drugs?

Our new brainstorm this year was to have students make an evidence portfolio. At the end of each unit, they write a crime scene story and prepare evidence from that unit. We are just finishing fingerprints so they have to write a news article about a crime and then make and lift some fingerprints and whatnot. Then the kids exchange stories/evidence and solve it. We hope that at the end of the year when they go to make their final crime scene with 4-5 types of evidence that this portfolio will help them. If anyone is doing something similar or would like to see how we are trying it, let me know.

Take care,
Melissa
