Beforeusing cross-device copy and paste for the first time, you'll need to make sure the feature is turned on. Open the Phone Link on your PC, go to Settings > Features > Cross-device copy and paste, and make sure the toggle is On for Allow this app to access and transfer content I copy and paste between my phone and PC.

Use your mouse to long press again on the file(s) you've selected, and a thumbnail will appear. Drag the files to your desired location on your PC. The cursor will change to indicate when you're able to drop the file(s).

Use your mouse to long press on the photo(s) you've selected, and a thumbnail will appear. Drag the photo(s) to your desired location on your PC. The cursor will change to say Copy when you are able to drop.

By default, content you drag from your PC to your Android device will be saved to your My Files app. Some apps, like OneDrive and Outlook, will allow you to directly drop content into them. If a file can't be dropped into the app you intended, it will be transferred to your My Files app on your Android device instead.

Once you've opened Phone screen in the Phone Link, use your mouse to select the file(s) you'd like to transfer and drag them to the phone screen window. The cursor will change to say Copy when you're able to drop.

When a successful file transfer is made, you can either tap the notification that appears on your Android device, navigate to the app you dropped your content into, or go to your Internal Storage > Download folder to view your files.

File drag and drop supports the transfer of all file types except for folders and files backed up to the cloud. You can transfer up to 100 files at a time, of any type. No single file can be larger than 512MB in size.

The item being transferred is not supported. For example, if even just one of the items you are dragging is a folder and not a file, or you try dragging 100 files, your Android device won't allow you to start a transfer.

Use your mouse to long press on the photo(s) you've selected, and a thumbnail will appear. Drag the the photo(s) to your desired location on your PC. The cursor will change to say Copy when you are able to drop.

File drag and drop requires a Samsung or OPPO or HONOR or ASUS device running Link to Windows (pre-installed) version 1.0.52.30 or later. Your Android device and PC must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

if i create a file from bash using the command touch hello.txt i can freely see this file in the windows UI and copy it to my Desktop. However, if i create a new text file from the windows UI and save it in C:\Users\\AppData\Local\lxss\home\\Pictures, even if i restart bash or windows, the file is not visible when i do ls -l.

EDIT Using /mnt/c is not a solution, i am trying to understand why it doesn't see those files and if there is a remedy to that so that it will be able to see UI created files, rather than trying to use the terminal to copy-paste or move files over.

You should only access Linux files system (those located in lxss folder) from inside WSL; DO NOT create/modify any files in lxss folder in Windows - it's dangerous and WSL will not see these files.

Files can be shared between WSL and Windows, though; put the file outside of lxss folder. You can access them via drvFS (/mnt) such as /mnt/c/Users/yourusername/files within WSL. These files stay synced between WSL and Windows.

But when I lauch the scripts, it returns "PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '[folderName]". Is there a way to copy/paste files and folders from Windows session to Ubuntu folders without having to run chmod on all files ?

You should not be manually copying data into the WSL installation from Windows - it will give you this permissions error when you do this. Rather, you should be copying from windows into WSL from within the WSL environment instead.

The Windows C drive is located at /mnt/c within WSL. If the scripts are located in C:\Users\username\My Documents\Python\ then you can do the following from within WSL to copy the scripts into the Ubuntu environment:

I wanted to move a file to the Ubuntu WSL working directory from the windows downloads folder using Ubuntu WSL command prompt as i had downloaded some files from an email but it denied access when i used the /mnt/c method. And the files get corrupted if you force copy them manually using the windows GUI. So what i did was that i installed firefox using my Ubuntu WSL command prompt. Opened the email using firefox (using the prompt ofcource) and downloaded the files which then went to a downloads folder in my Ubuntu WSL working directory. I got the files and the program to read the files was also installed using Ubuntu WSL so it worked for me. I am not sure whether the file reader if not installed using the Ubuntu WSL prompt will read the files for you because as far as i understand windows doesn't like to keep links with the Ubuntu WSL extension it provides. However if it helps, just email the files to yourself and download them using firefox and you have them.

You can also use the copy command, with different parameters, from the Recovery Console. For more information about the recovery console, see Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE).

If a write operation cannot be verified, an error message appears. Although recording errors rarely occur with the copy command , you can use /v to verify that critical data has been correctly recorded. The /v command-line option also slows down the copy command, because each sector recorded on the disk must be checked.

If the connection is lost during the copy phase (for example, if the server going offline breaks the connection), you can use copy /z to resume after the connection is re-established. The /z option also displays the percentage of the copy operation that is completed for each file.

If you don't specify a destination file, a copy is created with the same name, modified date, and modified time as the original file. The new copy is stored in the current directory on the current drive. If the source file is on the current drive and in the current directory and you do not specify a different drive or directory for the destination file, the copy command stops and displays the following error message:

If you specify more than one file in source, the copy command combines them all into a single file using the file name specified in destination. The copy command assumes the combined files are ASCII files unless you use the /b option.

If you combine files, the copy command marks the destination file with the current date and time. If you omit destination, the files are combined and stored under the name of the first file in the list.

While you probably don't think much about the copy dialog box in Windows, there are some ways to improve the experience it offers when copying and pasting. It isn't always fast when you copy a large number of files. And on Windows 7 and earlier, the entire process stops and waits for your input if there's a conflict or other error.

Keyboard shortcuts are a great way to work more efficiently in almost any piece of software, and File Explorer is no exception. For basic file copying, pasting, and moving, you should get some common keyboard shortcuts under your belt.

And finally, Ctrl + A will select all the contents of the current folder. This makes it easy to move everything from one location to another without having to select them all individually. For more, learn how to better manage your Windows clipboard.

Hold Ctrl and click multiple files to select them all, no matter where they are on the page. To select multiple files in a row, click the first one, then hold Shift while you click the last one. This lets you easily pick a large number of files to copy or cut.
