Netflix is dropping titles that are sure to shine all August long, so get ready to check out the best movies and shows streaming now. You can count on Netflix to lead the way with incredible and innovative new content like Netflix Original movies The Union and The Deliverance, in addition to Netflix Original series The Umbrella Academy: Season 4 and Emily in Paris: Season 4, Part 1, and so much more.

All month long, people have been eagerly waiting to see what new titles would be coming to Netflix. From old classics to brand new films having their premieres, Netflix is full of top-notch movies, documentaries, and comedy specials this August, but there were two that in particular stuck out above the rest. Here are the best new movies on Netflix this month.

This August, the shows on Netflix are more exciting than ever before, but two of those titles stand out above the rest. Here are some of the best new shows that Netflix is bringing your way this month.

The 50 best zombie movies of all time.
The 50 best movies about serial killers.

Many people go all out to celebrate their independence on the Fourth of July with their family and friends. But they should also take the time to acknowledge the people who died fighting for their freedom from tyranny and oppression. Netflix can help with that.

The streaming giant now features many films about many different wars. But they can all give viewers an idea of the hardships that real soldiers faced and maybe make them cherish the peace in their lives even more. And so, with the Fourth of July weekend here, these are the five best war movies people should stream on Netflix this Independence Day.

Controversial director Mel Gibson made an unexpected comeback with this World War II biopic. Hacksaw Ridge follows the life of an American soldier (Amazing Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield) who refuses to use a weapon, clashing with his superiors over his religious pacifism before serving as a combat medic in the Battle of Okinawa.

Some can only imagine how someone could survive on the battlefield without having to kill, but this film captures how one man did so and rescued 75 soldiers with some incredible performances and action sequences. Such a story displays how, even in war, people should aspire to save lives rather than take them.

What a summer it's been for kids' movies. Inside Out 2 is breaking box office records every single day. The Pixar sequel became the fastest animated movie to cross the $1 billion threshold and could legitimately become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Despicable Me 4 will not catch Inside Out 2's box office grosses, but the Minions are well on their way to becoming one of the most popular movies of 2024.

While animated movies are an excellent option for families, they only represent a portion of the movies offered to kids. Netflix has entire genres and subgenres dedicated to children, from comedies and dramas to fantasy and sci-fi. Below is a list of five kids movies to watch this summer. Our selections include a popular video game adaptation, a sports comedy from a comedic icon, and a fun body-swapping adventure.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Sci-fi is rally taking off on Netflix. Several noteworthy sci-fi titles are among the more popular films on Netflix. The Back to the Future trilogy is fun for the entire family, while the four Matrix films are the gold standard for the cyberpunk subgenre. Other popular sci-fi films on Netflix include Glass, Rebel Moon, Godzilla Minus One, and Atlas.

What's great about Netflix is the sheer volume of films. There are a lot of choices within each genre, especially sci-fi. But the high number of choices can be overwhelming. To ease your decision, here are five sci-fi movies you need to watch in July. Our choices include a DC superhero adventure, a sequel in a young adult franchise, and an underrated space horror movie.
The Flash (2023)

Action is one of the most popular genres on Netflix. In fact, the most popular movie on the streamer right now is an action comedy (more on that below). A slew of Netflix action films, such as Hit Man and Trigger Warning, also premiered in June. Other noteworthy action movies populating the service include The Flash, The Accountant, Extraction 2, and Warcraft.

Searching through the action genre on Netflix can be intimidating due to the high selection of movies. Have no fear; we have selected three action movies to add to your Netflix queue. Our selections in July include the fourth film in a legendary buddy cop franchise, an assassin thriller based on a famous novel, and a crime drama featuring a late movie star.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)

Netflix has already revealed all the new movies and shows coming to the service in July 2024, and there are some big hits coming our way. Every month, the streamer shakes up its already packed catalog with new additions, which is just one of the reasons why it's still one of the best streaming services available.

While it's exciting to see fresh movies and shows come to Netflix, a number of these are set to be removed, including sci-fi trilogies like The Matrix and Glass, so be sure to check out everything leaving Netflix in July 2024. But before you start to dwell on the titles leaving the platform, here's your guide to everything coming to Netflix next month.

Take charge of your streaming time and expenses by subscribing, canceling, switching to other services and then resubscribing, ensuring the platforms you want are on rotation. Rotating streaming services can mix things up and save money when Netflix, Hulu, Max and others don't have content you want to watch at a given time. (Just remember to shut off autorenewal for your monthly subscriptions.) This method may not fly if you're sharing your streaming accounts, but if you can work it out, go for it.

Below are my suggestions for which platforms to keep or cancel for July, based on new shows and movies coming to each platform. Though I didn't include any live TV streaming services or niche platforms like Crunchyroll, there's a wealth of anime series landing this summer.

Max: You're probably watching House of the Dragon, but don't miss Suicide Squad Isekai if you like anime or the July 4 release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Shark Week begins on July 7, and you can watch a series of shows and movies for the annual event on Max.

Disney Plus: Families who love Bluey and Bingo will want to stream the bite-size Bluey minisodes that arrive on July 3. Seven of them will drop at midnight PT, but you'll have to wait for the rest at a later date. Older kids can check out Descendants: The Rise of Red on July 12, the newest film in the series, which features singers Brandy and Rita Ora as royal moms. And The Acolyte will air its season 1 finale on July 16.

Peacock: Starting July 26, Peacock will start streaming the 2024 Paris Olympics and will air the games into August. Anthony Hopkins stars in the new gladiator series, Those About to Die (July 18), and the Love Island season 6 finale hits on July 21. Keep your subscription for all that or if you're a fan of Hallmark's Christmas in July lineup.

Starz: Power Book II: Ghost will take a break after its mid-season finale on July 5 and returns in September. You can take a break, too, unless you plan to stream season 2 of The Serpent Queen on July 12.

Apple TV Plus: The streamer is dropping a few new movies and titles, including a Time Bandits reboot on July 24, the film Me on July 12 and Women in Blue on July 31. Land of Women will stream throughout the month, but these are all binge-able if you want to wait.

Paramount Plus: SpongeBob's birthday is this month, so you may want to keep this service for the kids. Kamp Koral season 2 hits on July 10, along with a host of other themed content for the beloved sponge. If you're not interested in this or Evil, season 4, skip Paramount Plus.

If FOMO isn't a thing for you, waiting until most or all of the episodes of your favorite series are available on a service is a wise strategy. That way, rather than pay for a service for several months to cover the six- to 10-week run of a show, you can catch up on everything by subscribing for one month. And then repeat the cycle again. This works well if you don't mind being a binge-watcher.

For example, if you prefer to catch up on House of the Dragon's second season when it's over, wait until the finale in August to stream Max. After its recent price increase, this can save you a few bucks. Apple TV Plus has several new shows you can postpone for a binge, including the 10-episode Time Bandits. Why pay for two or three months of these services when you can wait to watch these shows in full anytime in the coming months?

Scroll no more! To help, we've rounded up the best movies and TV shows to stream this week, including new arrivals, nostalgia-filled favorites, book-to-screen adaptations and more. For the week of July 29 to August 4, 2024, there are several streaming releases and live events worthy of a watch, including the first full week of The Paris Olympics.
