> We launched the Friends of Perak 13 Fund on the 19th of March to raise money for the families of the 13 protesters who were sentenced to 10 months jail by the Court of Appeal. They are now serving their 10-month jail sentence.

> In case you are not aware of the case, these 13 were arrested in 2009 when they protested the take-over of the PR-state government by BN at the swearing-in ceremony of the new MB.

> The sentencing came as a shock to many as their constitutional right to protest peacefully without arms under Article 10(b) of the FC were ignored and a 10-month sentence was harsh. Many of the 13 are their families' sole breadwinners and some have handicapped children to support.

> We hope to give RM2,000 monthly  to each of the affected families for the 10 months they are in prison. To do that, we are asking 520 people to give RM50 each month for 10 months. That would raise a total of RM260,000 over the 10-month period.

> So far we have 150 donors, giving a total of RM60,000 to-date, Many gave the full sum of RM500 outright. We still need another 370 donors if we were to achieve our target.
