The Customer Relations Officer,
GATEWAY2000.

Hi,

GATEWAY CUSTOMER ID 0815641 - UNLUCKY CUSTOMER

I was happy to buy an expensive Gateway2000 PC for £2083.28 in April, 97
that included the speakers and other basic gadgets. However, in December,
97, the Woofer packed off but a replacement was sent. Within four months
that too packed off and another replacement was sent again. I do not use the
speakers much but they kept on working.

In May, 99, inside my computer a Video card or something became defective
that affected my monitor as well. So, they called back my computer for
repairs and I also sent them my 17 inch monitor, which had also packed off
as a result of defective Video Card. That were sent on 22 June, 99.

After a week, I got my repaired computer and after about 3 weeks, I got a
brand new 17 inch Monitor EV900, which they claim to be of a better quality
than the originally supplied with the PC. The Monitor is Made in Taiwan.

Yesterday, the same trouble happened again and my new Monitor EV900 packed
off hardly after six months reflecting how good are the Made in Taiwan
Monitors.

Today, I rang the Gateway2000 Customer Relations Office but they would not
attend to me and they rather put me to a Technician in the name of David
Byrne. I told him what had happened. He told me that my Monitor, keyboard,
mouse, speakers, etc. other than the PC itself have a year's warranty and
that has expired a long time ago. Even after telling him that their NEW
Monitor was hardly six months old, he would not budge from his decision.

So, they are very reluctant to replace the New Monitor EV900 saying that my
PC is covered under 3 year Warranty but not the Monitor and other
peripheries, which are covered for one year only.

Now, I was never told that the Warranties on PC and Monitor are different
and I took it that both were covered for 3 years. I asked around to other
Computer Company like Dell and they say their packages are covered including
the monitors and the peripheries for the period of three years.

Basically, I am not happy with their product as compared with IBM. I had an
IBM computer PS/1 and it had been working excellently without any trouble
for the past ten years. I would call the IBM PC a highly reliable product.

When I told Gateway2000 about the reliability of the IBM PC, they came with
the answer that you paid more for it meaning that their own products are
cheap of CHEAP quality as well.

Now, I paid the money through my Credit Card and I want to claim the refund
on the basis of "Good for Nothing Unreliable product Not suitable for my
business".

Could someone help me in drafting a letter to Gateway2000 Manager asking for
my refund please?

Also, what are the Legal implications please?

I am so annoyed with their PC and their after sales service that I intend
putting a copy of this letter on all news groups of Internet warning others
of their unreliable cheap products.

I feel that I may be an unlucky customer and shall be glad to hear from
other un-lucky customers so that in future I may think twice before buying
cheap computers.
