At 5:00 pm the center of Hurricane Sandy was located about 30 miles from Cape May, NJ and expected to make landfall within the next couple of hours. Winds across Vermont have been increasing all afternoon with gusts in the 30-40 mph range. Many gusts in the 50-60 mph range have been seen in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. These winds are expected to increase this evening and overnight in Vermont.

The National Weather Service High Warning continues until 11:00 am Tuesday morning.

The Berlin Emergency Management Team will continue to monitor this situation and update as necessary.

AFTERNOON AND 3 AM TUESDAY MORNING...BEFORE SHIFTING TO THE
SOUTHEAST AND SLOWLY DECREASING LATE TUESDAY.

* IMPACTS...SCATTERED DOWNED TREES AND POWERLINES ARE LIKELY...
