You know you want to "Go Pro"!  What self respecting home brewer wouldn't.  To some it's just a little dream, to others like myself, its a passion!  Maybe it's a little mid-life crises.  Either way, it probably gives you a boost that helps you get through the day, something to look forward to and be proud of.  If this sounds like you, please read on!

I would like to tap our club members to find the ones that are more obsessed or shall we call it serious about this "Going Pro" notion.  I happen to be of the opinion that it is better to talk about it than keep the idea to ourselves.  The Craft Beer industry has shown to work in synergy, not so much competitive.  So, when the time comes, the more nano's, brew pubs, or microbreweries in a given area, the better it will be for all the businesses.

So, as Colin talked about at the August meeting, and in the spirit of strengthening our club, I would like to start this sub group by planning our first meeting.  I'll come up with a rough agenda and take notes to share at our regular meeting.  We'll plan to invite some local guests with experience to join us in the future.  I'm thinking of meeting at the Hitching Post on Route 183, north of the 222/183 exit.  Mid week Tuesday through Thursday are the options, lets say sometime between August 21 through September 1.

Would all interested please send me an email at markh...@comcast.net, title it "Going Pro", and include a preferred date within this time frame and also dates that won't work and I'll try to pick the best one and let everyone know on Google Groups.   I think 7:00PM is good and we won't be bringing any home brew to this meeting.  I'll look forward to hearing from you all!  And remember, don't worry, be hoppy!

I haven't attended the monthly meetings due to work but I've met some here at Brewphoria. Something you might want to discuss is financing such an endeavor. I would be interested in investing based upon a strong business plan not intending to make millions but as a personal interest in everything beer.

I am at work now and all this beer talk is making me thirsty....

All,
While not specifically interested in owning a brewer, I am defiantly interested in helping establish one in the area.
Three great books that I highly recommend reading are....

1. Ray Daniels - Guide to Starting your own Brewery - http://www.amazon.com/Brewers-Associations-Guide-Starting-Brewery/dp/0937381896

2. Sam Calagione - Brewing Up a Business - http://www.amazon.com/Brewing-Up-Business-Adventures-Entrepreneurship/dp/0471708682

3. Steve Hindy and Tom Porter -Beer School (Brooklny Brewing Co.) http://www.amazon.com/Beer-School-Bottling-Success-Brooklyn/dp/0471735124.

Each book focuses on something specific.  Daniel's book has chapters from many different brewers as well as a sample business plan.   Sam's book really runs home the importance of you as a brand and the commitment to quality in brewing.  The Brooklyn Brewing Co. book is more of a story behind starting up a brewing, but interesting none the less.

Cheers!
Matt

Hey Mark,

I'm new to homebrewing (bottling my first brew tomorrow), but I'm interested in the design challenges and the business aspects.
