Sorry for the late reply, I had forgotten that the way I send the
message sends the replies to an old e-mail that I abandoned after it got
so much spam. Note that my new preferred e-mail is
jdun...@yahoo.com. But, when I try to e-mail a reply to you, it bounces back saying I am not authorized.
I had found the Reading group on Meet-up before. I had a schedule conflict for their last meeting, but I hope to catch them in the future. I have joined the group on Meet-up.
I
am getting into the 3-d printing world for someone I do a little work
for now. We were looking at the MakerBot 2x, but I was a bit concerned
over how much tinkering would be needed if I wanted to use dissolvable
supports. It can handle the two materials, but apparently not very well,
since they still say the PVA (the dissolvable part) is still
experimental.
We are looking at the Mojo, since it is around
$10,000 and seems very user-friendly. But, the print size is small for
us, and I wonder how trouble free it really is when I compare it to the
Makerbot? The Mojo dealer declined to give me any percentages on how
frequently a print fails.
There are perhaps hundreds of rapid
prototype machines aimed at the hobby market. But, I think we are past
the "spend a week tweaking it" level of machine. Though, I am sure many
are still for sale. Hopefully the more reliable machines will
eventually rise to the top.
Do you have any insight on this issue?
