Dear Beercan team,

Recently there's been some scrutiny around my 102 PHRF rating, so I'd like to change it.

I currently get +3 sec/mile credit due to having only a #2 Genoa, and not a full-size #1.   This gives me a NCPHRF rating of 102, whereas most O30's rate 99.  (There are others who rate 102.)

However, I've never actually measured my #2 genoa- I just bought it off Facebook and screwed padeyes for the sheets!  So, it might be bigger than the NCPHRF cutoff of 125%. For convenience and laziness, I assumed it wasn't.

So, until I get measurement and certainty about that sail, I'll give up that +3 sec credit and race with the standard Olson 30 rating of 99.  (I'll contact YRA separately once I get measurements done)

I view beercan racing as an opportunity to practice, develop crew, and refine our boats; as well as fun and camaraderie at the club!  Overall, to encourage and develop BYC racing.  I'm not out there to play the ratings game or gobble up beer mugs.  Beer, yes!  Mugs, no.  (But, for the record, I encourage everyone to play the ratings game and win trophies!)

Also, I highly appreciate the volunteer work everyone does to make the Friday night races fun and competitive, and bring us great dinners afterwards!  I don't want to add any drama 😁

So, would y'all please change the rating for Maiden California to 99 instead of 102?

Out of interest I went back and looked at last year's results with this change.  Here are the results of that analysis.  tl;dr: Not much.  11 instead of 13 firsts in summer 2024. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15Ec13lHtajZGY3R2XRe9SO93Vx5HCXTYvdVr4iiV7tA/edit?usp=sharing
