Hi Racers,

Betsy has been in touch with the beercan team and is looking for a crew
position for Friday Night Races for her and her husband Mark. She wrote
a nice summary of her experience, copied below. Take a look and reach
out!

See you Friday!

I am looking for a steady crew position in an afternoon/evening single
race keelboat racing group somewhere near Oakland/Berkeley. I recently
moved to Oakland from Santa Cruz to be closer to my 4 kids and 2
grandkids.

I have been crewing on a 30 ft Catalina forTuesday afternoon/evening
races every week in Santa Cruz for the past 4.5 years since I moved from
MD to CA. The boat I race on (Pair A Dice, Barry Keeler) also sets the
marks and course and I help with instruments and start timing as well as
participating as crew. I have done all crew positions, including helm,
though prefer jib/genoa sheets or main. I think I'm especially good at
helping when something goes wrong, like a jib that won't release, or a
barging situation. I am reasonably conversant with racing rules.

I also have been teaching women's intermediate keelboat lessons every
Monday night through University of California Santa Cruz on boats
ranging from 27-30 ft. We started organizing a Friday night spinnaker
training class, but it hasn't quite gotten going yet.

I have been sailing, mostly racing, small boats (especially 17 ft
Mobjack with trapeze and spinnaker) since I was 7, mostly on the
Chesapeake Bay. I owned a 40 ft Catalina sloop from 2018-2021 and my
husband and I sailed it ourselves from Boston to Maryland and then from
Maryland to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos living aboard for 2 winters
(12 months). I have chartered sailboats as skipper in the Caribbean,
Mediterranean and Seychelles, and will be sailing in Tahiti this fall.

I have my ICC, radio operator and RYA coastal skipper (offshore and
night sailing) certificates as well as CA boater's card.

I would greatly appreciate any help or advice on finding a crew position
in your racing series.

Best regards, Elizabeth (Betsy) McCord
