Berkeley Racers, Berkeley Racers, Berkeley Racers,
This is your Race Committee with some important information for our skippers & crew.
I'd like to quickly draw your attention to a few things covered by the Sailing Instructions that will help our Friday nights run a bit smoother. I've attached the SI’s for your reference.
6.4 Boats claiming a non-spinnaker allowance must signal when crossing the finish line by waving a buoyant cushion or life jacket.
This squarely puts the burden on you to get the time credit that you deserve. R.C. is not expected to figure out whether or not you flew a kite.
Put up the signal, get the credit. Don’t signal, don't get the credit… It's very simple.
7.1. Courses will be announced by RC ten minutes prior to start (i.e. 18:35) via VHF channel 79. See Attachment 1 for full course descriptions. If a designated RC boat is on station, the course may also be signaled using numerical flags.
Please turn your radio on upon leaving the dock and be monitoring for the course announcement. The course is usually announced several times between 18:30 & 18:40.
Big Boats, Please be aware that at 18:40 we have boats in sequence. There should be no chatter on the radio and the startingbox should be kept clear.
The last thing I'll address here is that we have fielded a lot of requests from potential crew over the past few weeks, some with a great amount of skill and some with a great amount of ambition. I make a habit of directing them towards the google group berkeleyyc-b...@googlegroups.com as well as the clubhouse/O-Dock pre race. I encourage all our skippers to check in at the clubhouse at 5:30 and please be up to date in our group chat. Let's all make sure that we are facilitating a warm welcoming environment to grow our community of sailors here at BYC.
Thank you all for participating in our weekly races!
Questions or concerns are welcome at bee...@berkeleyyc.org
However, Please keep in mind that complaining, criticism, or critique may be interpreted as volunteering to officiate the next race.
See you on Friday,
Tim Collins
