My friend and former BFUU colleague Lena Richardson is leading a
workshop May 4th 10-4 pm at Starr King on creating a community oral
history project in a UU congregation, based on her 2-year project at
BFUU and experience with Storycorps. She is an awesome facilitator,
it should be great! Details below. Please forward along as
appropriate.
Stories Between Us: How to create a community oral history project in
a UU Congregation
Saturday, May 4, 10 - 4 pm
Starr King School for the Ministry, Fireside Room
Leader: Lena Rebecca Richardson,
Project Director, BFUU Oral History Project
Editor - Stories Between Us: Oral Histories from a Countercultural
Congregation.
This workshop shares tools and approaches to a community oral history
project in a UU congregation. The workshop focuses on oral history as
a way to gather valuable historical knowledge; and also, as a process
that can build deeper connections that strengthens the whole
congregational community.
Based on her experience as a national Storycorps facilitator and her
work with the BFUU Oral History Project, Lena Richardson interactively
leads participants through oral history interview techniques and step-
by-step approaches to creating a community oral history process.
Each participant will receive a copy of Stories Between Us, the book
based on the BFUU Oral History Project, which includes an in-depth
guide and examples of oral histories. This is a great opportunity to
learn hands-on skills in oral history interviewing and build on the
power of stories to mobilize, support, and honor your congregation (or
another community).
Cost: $50 (Includes both workshop and Stories Between Us.)
