Hey everyone,
Timely reminder here of the first Berkeley Linux User Group meetup of the month.
Both the virtual and the in-person physical meetups start at 11:00am PST this Sunday, February 12th, and go to 2:00pm or however late people want to participate.
Please see the currently available meetup schedule at https://berkeleylug.com/meetings gratefully provided by Michael P. for further BerkeleyLUG meetup details.

Info of virtual meetup thru Jit.si Meet ...
https://meet.jit.si/BerkeleyLUG
Dial-in: +1.512.647.1431 PIN: 1036 1972 20#

*In-person meetup is at the SoDoI Coffee Tasting House:
2438 Durant Ave. -- located in the corridor of several stores
between Durant and Channing, under parking structure
Berkeley, CA 94704-1611
1-510-990-6487

SoDoI Coffee Tasting House webpage is at https://sodoicoffee.com/company/tasting-house/ and Michael's location-directions and parking info are at the Meetings webpage .
+ An OpenStreetMap.org approximation for locating SoDoI Coffee Tasting House is at https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/41746370 -- although likely best to instead refer to Michael's written directions at the Meetings webpage
+ Writeup on Yelp is at https://www.yelp.com/biz/sodoi-coffee-tasting-house-berkeley-2

Please note that this upcoming Sunday is also Super Bowl Sunday (see e.g. https://www.espn.com/nfl/super-bowl/ ), featuring the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kickoff time is 3:30pm PST (=4:30pm MST in Glendale, AZ), so there should be sufficient time to attend part of the Berkeley Linux User Group meetup and then attend any Super Bowl LVII watchings/events afterwards.
One could even stick around SoDoI Coffee Tasting House during the First Half of the Super Bowl in order to get some less-interrupted work done (assuming that SoDoI's patrons would much prefer watching the Super Bowl on larger-screen TVs/monitors elsewhere rather than individually streaming the game at the cafe itself!) :-)

I believe the preferred spelling is SuperbOwl Sunday, the day once a
year when -- because of some obscure sports contest -- the roads and
woods are unusually free of crowding, permitting walks and sighting of
owls.

Photos of particularly superb owls should ideally be posted to
https://www.reddit.com/r/Superbowl/ .

I personally intend to be in the Santa Cruz Mountains starting about
3pm, on a trail, keeping an eye out for owls.

Am also running late due to a fire/smoke situation in an adjoining apartment.
SoDoI arrival-time revised ~1hr forward(?)

When you must stand up for something important in the face of those who would readily cut you down, then you must continually remind yourself of the words of the great Mahatma Gandhi,

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

SoDoI was pretty crowded today.  There wasn't really any space to spread out
and try the display gadget thing that I have been talking about.  Maybe next month.

Anyways, Bob brought a couple of Pi Zero's with USB device attachments.  The Zero
has some test pads on the bottom that bring out the USB pins.  One of his devices
connected to the pads with pogo pins like this one:
That worked pretty well.  Bob had it already configured on the Pi side.  The host side
he had a chromebook and that took us a while to figure out.  He didn't want to enable
developer and the built in shell doesn't have ssh.  We found a chrome browser extension
that does ssh and we were in!

The other one is soldered to those test pads like this one:
After struggling a while we decided that maybe the soldering wasn't right.
(None of us can see well enough to tell)
Anyways I brought it home to check and repair under a microscope:

Working!

Still had a lot of trouble with it.  I used my new Pinecil soldering iron (very nice for a cheap iron,
I'm really impressed.)  Soldering looked good and the Zero booted right up powered by the laptop
USB.  But no USB ethernet.  I spent way too long thinking it was a software problem.  I was
missing a data pin!  The photo's above show success.  SSH and VNC.
But the Pi is not connecting to WIFI.  I'm thinking now that it may be that the laptop is not
providing enough power over the single USB port.  I'll try another day with higher current power.
