Hi All,

The Solano Stroll is September 12th (supplanting our next meeting).  The event runs from 10am - 6pm but we need a couple to show up early (9am-ish to help set up the booth).  We also need people to on hand most of the day.  So, please email back in this thread if you can attend and what times you're going to be there.  Our booth is at 1223 Solano Ave.

Things we have:

Tent
2 Big Tables
3 Chairs
1 Banner
4 Plastic Display Cases
400 Flyers
Stuffed Tux and Android Figures
1 LCD TV with Demo Machine
50 Nice Pressed Luicd CDs (we'll give these out to people who show a real interest in installing linux)

Things we need:

About 200 Burned Lucid Live CDs
Power - does anyone have an inverter with a big battery?  Or some sort of big batter backup
A couple laptops to display

Cheers!

Jack

Powering the TV/Demo is going to be tough on battery alone; all the inverter/batter pack setups I've seen might give you an hour or so at best. It really would need a generator. Maybe we could bring a couple long extension cords just in case some "neighbors" have a generator? I can be there at 9 to help set up and stay until about Noon; I'll bring my netbook for display, a case of water and some snacks for the crew.

I'll be there for setting up. I need to take an inventory on what I
have available. I'll get to that tonight after www.dvlug.org Laptop
wise I have a 64 bit Lucid MacBook Pro that we can use to demo with
and my XOs. I tried Unity under Maverick inside a VirtualBox install
but encountered some issue after the gdm login where it hung. I'll
see if I can make it work to demo too. Unity is quite cool. Jono was
showing some of us at the Global Jam how it's coming along and is
sized and can be used for touch screens when the multi-touch libraries
and appropriate hardware are used. Unity is the name of the key
component of Maverick's Netbook Edition.

I have 66 pressed and about 104 burned desktop disks in one stage of completion or another for the Stroll.

I also have 77 pressed 64 bit server discs. We won't need them all but we will have them on hand.

Lyz gave me the banner we used at www.linuxpicnic.org that has dome some traveling.

I will bring the two XOs and a solar panel. That will entice a few more people stop by the booth and say hello.

Did I miss how many tri-folds we have left? If we run out can we have some simple quarter sheet handouts with info on our meetings, website and mail list?

I could use some help unloading the car with this stuff during setup.

Suggestions:

  • Old, old, old hardware running stock Ubuntu
  • Kubuntu demo
  • Grant: what OS image are you running on your XOs? You may want to flash to 852.
  • Something that dual-boots
  • hands-on! Let people play with the computers (especially the XOs.)
