Hope to hear on Sunday the success story/stories from this Saturday's ExChromebook Installfest at StrayCap Makerspace in Hayward [1][2] which Michael P recently posted to this mailing-list :-)
Still have available in case anyone else might be interested a pair of Linux-revitalized ExChromebooks to giveaway that were among those originally provided courtesy of at least Fixit Clinic's Peter M, of the folks of StrayCap, and of SudoRoom's Thomas L.
Will hold off bringing to Sunday's meetup either of these Linux-revitalized ExChromebooks unless or until someone or two expresses clear interest in them.
The particular giveaway ExChromebooks have a minimalistic installation of Debian Linux [3] with the LXQt desktop environment [4], which appears to make resource-constrained ExChromebooks such as these run slightly faster than Ubuntu-based Linux distros such as Linux Mint[5], Zorin OS [6] and Lubuntu [7]. They have a total of 16 GB of internal storage, 4 GB of RAM, a pair of USB Type A (Female) ports, and a single microSD slot for expanded storage. Both come with their AC power adapters, and when sufficiently charged, seems decent for doing light computing tasks (email, web-browsing, office productivity, ...) used when travelling and/or near WiFi hotspots.
Cheers!
