Dear Berkeley alumni, students and friends,

Happy Fourth of July! Please find below the July 2013 update of upcoming events for the Berkeley Club of Singapore (in Blue and Bold) and from our affiliate clubs via DUAL (in Red and Bold).

In case you didn't already know, the Berkeley Club of Singapore Annual Dinner will be held on Friday, 26th of July at the Four Seasons Hotel. It promises to be a memorable night with fundraising for a very worthy cause - the students of Berkeley Study Abroad. Did you know that Singapore is the Top Choice among summer session students? This summer, there are 60 students in Singapore (next is Dublin, Ireland with 33) and most of these students are financial aid recipients. As de facto hosts and ambassadors of Singapore to these students, it's incumbent upon us to support them as best we can.

Please note that we are hosting two Happy Hour sessions this month:

  1. Monday, 8th of July at 7:00pm - OverEasy (special guests David Richardson, Haas, International Business Development, and Berkeley Study Abroad students)

  2. Thursday, 11th of July at 6:30pm - OverEasy - our usual happy hour...you know the drill.

As always, new members who sign up or old members who renew their memberships at the Happy Hour will receive a free beer, compliments of several Exco members (limited supply).

DUAL Drinks is back on – but at a new venue – Namu Korean Dining. Come down for the July DUAL Drinks to check out the new venue.

Finally, if you are interesting in being part of a Berkeley team for the DUAL Trivia Challenge, please respond to this email. If there is enough interest, we will organize a team. Please note that DUAL is combining DUAL Trivia Challenge with the American Association of Singapore’s Quiz Night. So, form a team of 6 and see who will be the champion of the DUAL Trivia Challenge/AAS Quiz Night!

To receive the most up-to-date information on Club activities and news about Cal, please join us on our Facebook Page and Group.

Thanks & best regards,

About Uber
Uber is a technology company. We make a smartphone app that provides users with an on-demand, private car service to take them safely and smoothly to where they need to go, in over 25 major cities around the world -- at the push of a button.
Our revenues have grown more than 10-fold in just the past year, and they’ve accelerated with the launch of Uber in seven new cities over the past two months.
On another level, Uber is about applying mobile technology, data-driven decision making, and world-class operations teams to solve a massive, offline problem: urban transport.
We're building a new fabric for urban logistics that is redefining the way people experience and get around a city. And we're just getting started.

Uber in the Press: Forbes called Uber one of the top ten start-ups of 2012, Wall St. Journal put Uber as one of the top 10 apps of the year, and New York Times highlighted Uber one of the top companies to watch.

Uber in Asia: Following success in America and Europe, Uber launched in Sydney in November last year, in Melbourne this past January, and in Singapore in February. This is a unique opportunity to be an early employee in one of Silicon Valley's highest-growth startups, while shaping a nascent brand in Asia. Our founding teams will have all the fun, and do all the building, of a true startup; but will also be backed with significant resources - engineering, capital, investors, expertise, etc. - to help us grow a big business here.

Opportunities in Asia: These roles are available for Singapore, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo, Beijing and Bangalore. The job description is the same for each; please visit Uber Asia Available Roles for links to the specific city role you are interested in.

General Manager - CEO of the city, responsible for growth, P&L, running the team, regulatory, media and connection back to HQ. Experienced leader, analytical, creative.

Operations Manager - responsibility for the supply side of Uber's business, pitching transportation partners on working with Uber, managing capacity and quality of supply. Analytical type (ex-bankers and consultants are common) looking for ownership and to make an impact with their work.

Community Manager - responsibility for demand side of Uber's business, local marketing, customer support, PR and social media. Killer networker, hyper creative, great communicator.

Asia Expansion - responsible for evaluating and launching new markets, including supply and demand generation, influencer engagement. Analytical and engaging, possesses or can easily build up a great network, independent, execution killer. Heavy travel required, multiple languages preferred.
