Happy Lunar New Year! Please find below the February 2013 update of upcoming events for the Berkeley Club of Singapore (in Blue and Bold) and from our affiliate clubs via DUAL (in Bold).

We would like to highlight our upcoming Valentine's Day Happy Hour on Thursday, 14th of February. Don't let having no date for Valentine's Day stop you from having fun and meeting people! 3.  Friday 15th February, 6:00pm - 8:00pm - Royal Geographical Society Talk - Khoo Swee Chiow
Khoo Swee Chiow, Singapore’s best known adventurer and explorer, will give a talk entitled “You Only Live Once” to the Royal Geographical Society’s Singapore branch at the Tanglin Club, 5 Stevens Road, Singapore 257814, 6-8pm on 15th February 2013.

Swee Chiow is a hugely inspiring and engaging adventurer. He describes mountains as his first love, and has climbed the highest peak on each of the seven continents (including Everest three times!). But he has also been to both poles, swum the Malacca Straits, and cycled, roller-bladed and kayaked his way around Asia, setting several records. Swee Chiow will draw from his experience of over 40 expeditions to talk about how and why he does it, what he has learnt along the way and what he has planned for his next mind-bogglingly ambitious adventure.

Moderator:
David Barker is president of ASIM Education, the parent organization for both the International Executive Education Center and the Asian School of International Management. His experience in the education sector has been focused on bridging highly ranked US graduate programs into Asian markets with Asian context. He is an experienced executive with greenfield startups, merger and acquisition, and divisional expansion and has lectured in China, Singapore, and the US on change management and strategy.

Panel:
Dr. Jane Horan is the founder and CEO of thehorangroup, an organization focused on building gender rich, culturally aware work environments. Her areas of expertise include building a diverse and Inclusive workforce, making unconscious/conscious bias and embracing positive workplace politics. Prior to her current role she served as director of management and organizational development at Kraft Foods Asia. She holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Asian Women Leaders from the University of Bristol.

Penny Morris-Hardee is the head of the Society of Intercultural Educators, Trainers & Researchers (SIETAR) in Singapore. Her work focuses on intercultural competence development, coaching, learning and development and global leadership and diversity/inclusion. She has coached, trained and mentored a variety of employees from 32 nationalities in 90+ multinational and global corporations in 12 countries. Her work includes executive, team, transition and career coaching, soft skills training, consultative sales and employee assessments.

Subarna Malakar is a proven leader with a decade of experience developing human resource management, diversity management, organizational and talent development. He is the global diversity and inclusion manager at Unilever where he leads the global diversity strategy, global external diversity relations and provides overall guidance to senior leaders. As part of this e
ort, Unilever won European Diversity Award 2012, the Women in Leadership: China’s Most Friendly Employer in 2012 and the prestigious Catalyst Award WorkingMums.UK Employer of the Year Award.

Andrea Muller has more than 23 years experience working with large multinational firms and is chief executive in Asia for Principal Global Investors. In this role, she has regional responsibility for the Asia (ex-­Japan) locations of Principal Global Investors, including the Singapore, Hong Kong, China and Dubai. She has oversight responsibilities for all sta
located in the regional joint ventures in China and Malaysia. She is a member of the Principal Global Investors extended operating committee and is on the board of governors for the American Chamber of Commerce (Singapore).

The DUAL Finance Breakfast is a networking event with fellow DUAL professionals within the industry over a casual coffee and breakfast. Rules of Engagement:
Speed dating is a formalized matchmaking process whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people. Guys and girls will rotate to meet each other for a series of short 5 minute "dates" to interact and get to know each other. At the end of the event, each participant will fill out a form to be handed to the organizers stating any of the guys or girls whom you have interest in for a follow up date.
