Leading Breakthrough Innovation
Innovation is a powerful engine of growth and transformation. It can create extraordinary wealth for some, but it can also destroy the fortunes of others. In this lecture, Professor Rajesh Chandy will discuss insights from 18 years of research by him and his and co-authors on the drivers of innovation. He will describe how successful innovators take concepts – whether old or new - from one context, and apply them in entirely different technological, market, and geographic contexts.  He will then examine the typical responses by industry participants to innovation, and explore why some are able to manage innovation better than others. In particular, he will emphasize the role of leadership and corporate culture in driving innovation, and will explore the impact of innovation in emerging markets.

Chandy’s areas of expertise include innovation, technology management, emerging markets, and marketing strategy. During 2006-2008, he served as a member of the US Secretary of Commerce Advisory Committee on Measuring Innovation in the 21st Century Economy. He serves on the brain trust of the Global Innovation Forum, and has been a member of the American Marketing Association’s Academic Council and its Knowledge Development Coalition.

Chandy’s research and publications have received several awards, including the Journal of Marketing Harold Maynard Award for contributions to marketing theory and thought, the AMA Early Career Award for Contributions to Marketing Strategy, the AMA TechSIG Award for the best article on Technology and Innovation (twice), the MSI Alden Clayton Award for the best dissertation proposal, and the Mary Kay Award for the best marketing dissertation. He has received the AMA Early Career Award for contributions to marketing strategy research, and has been named an MSI Young Scholar.

Chandy is as an Area Editor for the Entrepreneurship and Innovation area at Management Science, and is a current or former member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, International Journal of Research in Marketing, and Marketing Letters.

Fortune magazine described Chandy’s findings on innovation as "an unorthodox and bracing set of management principles."  He has received a number of teaching awards, including the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award, the Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Outstanding Faculty Dedication Award. At London Business School, he teaches MBA electives on Entrepreneurship in Emerging Markets, and on Managing and Marketing Innovation. Additionally, he is the faculty director of the executive education course on Market Driving Strategies.

Chandy has provided advisory and executive education services to Toshiba, St. Jude Medical, 3M, Philips, Commonwealth Microfinance Limited, American Medical Systems, Deutsche Telekom, Bertelsmann, Hutchinson Technology, Microsoft, Mundipharma, Rexam, Wrigley, GfK, Futuredontics, Telenor, and the US and UK governments, among others.

Chandy received his PhD in Business Administration in 1996 from the University of Southern California.

Join Dr. David Reeb for an overview on the diculties and issues involved in raising capital in private firms and the various possibilities for obtaining external capital. Research indicates that access to capital by entrepreneurial firms is a major factor in facilitating economic growth in an economy. At the firm level, business owners have the skills and expertise in running the firm but often have incomplete information about the potential avenues for raising capital from external sources. The hurdles and decisions that firms must navigate in raising external capital include the choice between debt and equity financing, dierences between public and private capital, the role of venture capitalists in entrepreneurial firms, and in evaluating the costs and benefits of the IPO process.

7. Curated Exhibition with Original Masterworks of Goya, Klimt, Man Ray and Others on the Theme of Body
The Harvard Club of Singapore warmly invites DUAL alumni for a private exhibition and guided tour of original masterworks by Goya, Klimt, Rembrandt, Man Ray, Brassai, Franz Grosse as well as court artists of Mughal India and China. The exhibit is a first in Singapore to bring together a wide range of fine arts from classical to modern times in a private curated exhibit.
The Body: Divine, Sensual and Surreal is curated along three key focal points: the private body, the body as divine beauty, and the body as a surreal object. We invite you to:
• Take a walk through the quiet interiors of a 19th century Chinese scholar’s home with a new
bride
• Face the vibrant court of an Indian Mogul prince and his lovers
• Tremble before the terrible beauty of Tibetan Buddhist divinities
• Bask in the glory of the female form in 16th and 19th century oils
• And enter the surreal world of early 20th century photography where the body itself is the
strange land.

The human body, the most fundamental expression of ourselves, has been the source of both conflict and celebration across societies ancient to modern. The markers and distinguishers of the body which we choose to hide or reveal separate the personal from the public, the familiar from the alien, the elite from the common, and the divine from the base. The body is a central concept around which Art in all its manifestations rarely can escape from.
For small taste of the exhibit, please visit http://xuartspace-curatorial.tumblr.com/

Date: 15 September, 2012 (Saturday)
Time: 5-7 pm
Location: The address will be sent to those who confirm.
RSVP: Interested parties please RSVP to eve...@harvardclub.sg. Space is limited to 15 per tour. Wine and cheese will be served.

She'll examine why some firms in an industry survive and prosper while others fail and why firms are effective during certain periods and fail during others.
