Hello

My name is Volodymyr Pobuta and I am currently working in the National Laboratory of Energy and Geology in Lisbon. My work requires the use of the type 56 in the TRNSYS software, which you might be familiar or not with. The goal of the project is to make a thermal analysis of a specific building, which requires me to specify the materials for walls, floor and windows.

Browsing the existing libraries in TRNSYS, I could not find the exact model of the windows that are currently installed in the building, so I had to install the WINDOW software in order to create a new WINDOW ID to have a more accurate description of the buildings properties. I have found a tutorial on how to add a new window type in the libraries, however, when I come to the TRNSYS software (to contextualize, before moving on the simulation environment, I need to upload the CAD model of the building to TRNBUILD, where I am able to specify the properties of materials), the values for the U and g coefficients appear to be different from what I am putting in the library data files. I have checked the prgwin.dat, W4-lib.dat and W74-lib.dat and the values are all defined as I copied from the WINDOW software, but when try to choose the window type in the TRNBUILD environment, the values are wrong.

The version of TRNSYS that I am using is the most recent one, which does not correspond to the version of TRNSYS for which the tutorial I found was created. I have no idea where the problem is coming from, need some help. I put the tutorial version I found online for you to understand the process of how to add new windows to the libraries of TRNSYS. Hope to hear from you soon :)

Hello Volodymyr,

I'm facing exactly the same problem, but I suspect this is not a real issue (even if I answer this before having actually tested the issue).
My guess is that you refer to those values, but - has TRNBUILD says - they are not used.

Actually, there seems to be something wrong in the generation of the DOE-2 report and/or in TRNSYS, as I manually changed the values of the last lines, like this:
TRNSYS.JPG
and now 9.93 appears in TRNBUILD in place of 0.36.

Problem 1 : the report says that those columns contains the Uw and Ug-values, but they are the same (problem in the report generation ?)
Problem 2 : TRNSYS should read Ug but take the value from the column Uw.

Another difficulty with WINDOW is that forcing it to calculate according to CEN is not tricky, and I don't really understand everything.

Hope it helps.

Kind regards,
