Circular windows?

Hi folks,

I need model a circular skylight -- in particular, glass temperatures and condensation probability as a function of the internal and external environment. Is that possible for a circular aperture within WINDOW, and if not, is there a standard approach for obtaining reasonable results by scaling from a square window?

WINDOW cannot model circular products. 

I am not aware of a standard approach to modeling such a product, but others might. You could potentially model a square version and do some area weighted averaging or something like that, but not sure that will get you what you are looking for.

You might want to post this question on the THERM forum (rather than the WINDOW forum) as there are more users there with sophisticated modeling knowledge.

As a first order of approximation, for glass temperature and condensation resistance, I would do a rectangular window with the height equal to the diameter of the circular window. For U-factors, I would do area weighting of frame, edge of glass and center of glass using their areas, which you would get by calculating area of the frame as area of the total circle minus the area of the circle produced by drawing a sightline. Area of the edge of glass would be the area of the circle produced by drawing a sightline minus area of the circle 2.5 in. from the sightline. The center of glass would be the area of the circle 2.5 in. from the sightline.
