Darkest Dungeon is a great game with lots of innovative and intriguing features. Nevertheless, the game is far from perfection due to many reasons. The game is criticized for being too difficult, frustrating and unforgiving (even on normal difficulty). The game can be very grindy, which can be boring and tedious for some players. The page contains cheats and mods that can the game easier and/or faster, from the simplest to more complicated methods. Saving the game manually: Darkest Dungeon automatically saves as the game progresses, making all the actions and choices permanent. However, you can still save the game manually. Save files are stored in Documents/Darkest/profile_0/1/2 and/or steam/userdata//262060/remote. Back them up before an important point, e.g. before embarking on a quest (while the game is not running) and replace the file saves if things don't go the way you expect.

Remove level restriction: Heroes of high level can now go to dungeons with lower difficulty with a simple modification. Go to your installation folder at Darkest Dungeon/campaign/quest/quest.json and open the file with notepad. Scroll down to the end of the file and change all numbers in "restriction" section to 99. It should look like this.

When the player retreats from a normal expedition, the game will not advance the week. However, this does not apply to retreated expeditions from the Darkest Dungeon; the week will advance as if the expedition was successful. To perform this exploit, send a single hero to the Darkest Dungeon and immediately retreat. Since the game advances one week, expedition quests and the stagecoach will be refreshed, and activities in the Hamlet will advance. A similar exploit can be done with the first expedition to the ruins, but it will not refresh the stagecoach or the expedition quests. This exploit is faster, as you cannot skip the dialogue when you enter the Darkest Dungeon.

When the player retreats from the Darkest Dungeon with a resolve level 5 or 6 hero, the game will provide a 2-times multiplier to resolve experience boost to the next quest expedition. This effect stacks and can be exploited. The increase from this buff is additive, not exponential or multiplicative. For example, a short apprentice expedition will normally yield two resolve experience; one stack of the boost will yield four experience, two stacks will yield six experience, three stacks yield eight, and so on.

To perform this exploit, select a expedition that will not be blocked by a hero's resolve level and click embark. While the game is transitioning to the provision screen, immediately select your desired dungeon (this can require fast clicking). If done successfully, your heroes will bypass any expedition restrictions that normally occur. This exploit can be used to send Shard Mercenaries on normal dungeon expeditions and can be used to bypass resolve level restrictions in all difficulty levels. This can also be used to access the Courtyard without any invitations. This exploit can only be done on the PC and Switch versions of the game, as the PS4 version lacks the controls needed.

When a hero receives their resolve check, open up the options menu with the [Esc] key and exit to the main menu; when the hero becomes afflicted, the background will turn red; when the hero becomes virtuous, the background will lighten up. When an undesirable resolve check occurs, exit to the title screen. Upon returning to the game, the hero will receive another resolve check. This exploit only works before the affliction/virtue cut-scene. Since afflictions and virtues are not pre-determined, multiple resolve checks will yield different results. This exploit can be used to ensure that heroes will not become afflicted and can be used to get the special Sleeper achievement that requires two afflicted and two virtuous heroes.

Send two resolve level zero heroes with two Talisman of the Flame trinkets into the second Darkest Dungeon mission. Upon retreating, one hero will perish, but a fourth "talisman" will be given. This occurs as the game will always supply at least three talismans into the trinket inventory. When the surviving hero returns, an additional talisman is returned, resulting in four trinkets. This exploit can be used to bypass the need for heroes with guard abilities in DD2.

Remove Abomination party restriction: Abomination no longer troubles other god-fearing heroes. Go to Darkest Dungeon/heroes/abomination and open the file abomination.info.darkes with Note pad. Delete the last line "incompatible_party_member: .id abomination_religion .hero_tag religious" and now everyone will be happy. No more "Werewolverism".

Cheat engine / Artmoney: Most of the basic values in the games like Money, Heirlooms can be searched and modified easily with Cheat Engine / Artmoney. If you don't feel like grinding your way through all the expenses and upgrade, you can skip the time-consuming (but possibly very rewarding) process with these programs. Players can use the pre-made table for more choices. The table can be found here. #REDIRECT [[1]] Note: Not everything in that table works, especially the remove level restriction function. Use the method mentioned above for that. Furthermore, do not increase your heroes's health with that table if they are at Death's Door. You need to get them off the Death's Door first (by healing in the game) then you can increase their HP using CE, otherwise they will be stuck with Death's door penalty even when they are at full health. Similarly, if your heroes have an affliction, change the stress to 1 and reduce it further in the game to remove the affliction completely. Otherwise, the affliction won't disappear just like Death's door status. (Link broken).

Set in a dismal 2D setting, Darkest Dungeon is a party-based dungeon delver and RPG with an emergent storyline in which players are tasked with bringing their ancestral home back to its former glory. The catacombs underneath the ancestral home in Darkest Dungeon host paranormal monsters and eldritch abominations. Darkest Dungeon takes a lot of cues from the cosmic horror genre, as party members are constantly being driven ever closer to insanity the more they explore the dark depths.

By visiting the Stage Coach in town, players can pay gold to recruit a new hero. The selection of available heroes is always randomized, and each potential recruit will have their own quirks that players will want to analyze carefully before they decide to add them.

When replacing fallen party members, players should try to focus on recruiting heroes based on class. Unless players want to experiment with party composition, there is no reason to begin trying random heroes with random classes. Until players are comfortable, it is always a good idea to have a robust hero roster that includes at least two or three characters of each class the player intends to use.

One of the biggest dangers in Darkest Dungeon is the stress mechanic. Unlike health, stress never resets when heroes exit a dungeon, keeping with the spirit of the cosmic horror genre. This effectively means that players are forced to spend valuable resources if they want to keep their party alive longer.

There are a few ways to minimize stress gain while in a dungeon. These include avoiding digging through obstacles barehanded, avoiding traps, not looting any suspicious curios, etc. Players should also always ensure that the party has access to food and a bright torch for the entirety of the mission. Otherwise, it is almost guaranteed that the party will become overly stressed and gain an affliction or suffer a heart attack.

The most important thing players can do is make highly stressed party members relieve stress as soon as they get back to the Hamlet. The town has two main buildings entirely dedicated to stress relief, the Tavern and the Abbey. Players should head to these establishments, stick a character in an available slot, and pay the gold necessary for them to have fun. The amount of stress relieved is highly dependent on the character's personality, so players should try to assign each hero to an activity based on which one they would enjoy most.

The Guild Hall operates very similarly, except instead of item upgrades it deals with improving a hero's skillset. These buildings are for improving heroes who have proven their extended use to the player.

There are some heroes who just become dead weight. They can gain too many afflictions, always become overly stressed, and become a liability in dungeons. It is not uncommon for players to end up developing a hero that just requires too much maintenance. In these cases, players shouldn't be afraid to cut them loose.

Much of Darkest Dungeon is spent managing limited resources like gold and survival gear. With death being as common as it is, and the Stage Coach bringing in fresh heroes every day, there is no reason to hang onto a specific character for as long as possible. Players should consider whether getting rid of a character will save them gold and resources in the long run.

FANTASTIC JOB! I can't tell you how awesome this edit is and how it all flows together and there are hardly any continuity issues. I have only one question. Bilbo says on Ravenhill that Azog has another army to the north, but how does he find this out? I suppose its just Gandalf saying they need to be warned of more enemy troops. Did you feel there were any other continuity issues that couldn't be fixed due to the source material?? Again, great job and many thanks!

Thank you! Regarding your question, I just left the northern army's presence as implied. However, there is a brief scene where Legolas rides in and warns Bilbo/Gandalf of the northern army. Perhaps I could re-insert that, as long as you're OK with a little more Legolas...?

Distributing physical DVD copies of the film would probably cross the line of legality. However, when the final version is done in November I will make an ISO image for both DVD and Bluray, which you can download and use to burn your own physical copy. I have also provided box and disc artwork on the downloads page here, so all you need to do is print them out and you can have your own physical copy!
