Alsoit depends on how you setup your speakers. Do you use a 2.1 speaker setup, a headphone, or a 7.1 surround sound setup? Cable sometimes make a difference too, do you use analog audio cable, or digital cable like HDMI or Optical?
Windows sound setting sometimes get reset to a different speaker setup, disabling some speakers and may affect the volume of sounds that used to come to different speaker channels. I know I had to reset my Windows sound mode at least once a week because it keeps reverting to Stereo while I want it to use my 7.1 speaker setup.
I have all at max inside sim, in win os all is ok but sim runs half lower. I need set my tv to more with sim start to hear also minimums call. My tv is set to std with volume and again, win sounds are ok but sim, horrible.
Got the same issue here. On 1.12, engine sounds seem to stop working sometimes on a time warp. It might be related to mods we are both running but your
mega.nz download link to the text file with your mods stopped working. I had all the same mods installed on 1.11 and never had this issue. Some of them I've updated, some of them I've yet to.
I am having the same problem as described. I'm using the same mods (some updated) as I did with 1.11 and previous versions with no such issue. I haven't quite determined if it is related to time warp, because it seems that is may happen just switching in and out of map view. I can't confirm that though.
Noticed this issue myself today, using about 15 mods, all very small, mainly quality of life stuff (like Easy Vessel Switch, RCS Build Aid, etc). Tried to fiddle around with various aspects to recover the audio in game but the only fix was to restart the game annoyingly. I really hope this doesn't take months to fix like the old audio bug with airbreathing engines, at least you could still hear those (albeit, the volume didnt adjust when you scrolled out away from the craft). Where's the best place to report bugs? Discord? Or this forum here? I'll go the extra miles and remove all my mods to try and replicate the bug if no one has offically reported it yet.
Rocket sounds seem to work fine on the launchpad, then I lose everything eventually. I thought it was Kerbalism at first doing some 'realistic' thing to the sound of engines in space, then I noticed my airplane jet engines don't make noise either. I noticed when I reload a save mid-flight, suddenly during the 'lag', the engines will make noise.
@Frostiken Are you using any mods?
I found some other issues too, such as parachutes not making the opening noise or no water splash sound, seems to be some kind of issue with the sound that's forsure. I am currently trying to recreate the issue in stock, no mods at all so I can be sure no mod is possibly causing the issue and do a report on the squad bugtracker. I was using the following before hand, if I can't recreate it at all I'll try and test a few of the common mods used by those who have reported it and see if maybe there is an issue there? Unless someone that plays stock can chime in and say they are having the issue too. I'll keep you guys posted haha!
Try taking Waterfall off, since you're playing with this. Waterfall is the only thing I can think of that affects all the engines having problems. I was going to try it myself but never got around to it.
Worth a try so I'll give it a go! Especially if you are having this issue too and have Waterfall installed. Although the second poster Johnnyknowhow didn't report using Waterfall, only Mechjeb, Easy Vessel Switch and Scatterer are the only mods I have in common with them. Worth a try though, the issue doesn't happen very often, maybe every few hours? But often enough that it is making the game difficult to enjoy.
I don't know about @dudefan, but I am using BetterTimeWarp and also having this problem as described. Is there suspicion that this may be the problem? I'd test myself, but I am not in a position to do so at the moment.
Yeah I am starting to suspect it might be the cause, another player has reported this on that mod's thread and appeared to have had done a lot of testing themselves to identify that mod as the issue. I've since removed it from my game and I haven't had the problem occur anymore (I've run a few missions since I removed it in my career game and I should of had the problem it at least once by now as it occured frequently enough for me piror). I'll keep playing and if it does occur again I'll let you know but it might be worth checking if removing that mod fixes the issue for you. Looks like the mod author is looking into it this too so if it is the cause, it probably won't be long before it is patched up.
I see that the timewarp mod author Linuxgurugamer has not acknowledged that mod as being the root cause of this engine sound issue. He says that he has seen this problem without the mod installed. Still waiting for a definite conclusion I guess.
Yes, the "VERY low" may be too low it seems, especially if a real-world pilot says so. I am, however, only flying Vulkan now, since the performance is so smooth and fast for me now, with my AMD hardware. Though, I will look into this "low isolation" settings in the EFB sounds section though, since it's a beautiful thing to hear the engines, especially that of a Jumbo. ?
No, I am only flying the Zibo 738 at this point, waiting for the other aircraft to be updated to work in Vulkan. But these almost inaudible sounds were mentioned by people right from the first time I bought this aircraft, so they are NOT realistic, no matter how quiet the real aircraft is.
High and low isolation can be a reason. I have never been in a 747-8 in real world but I feel the guys at TSS can definitely add a few more layers of sound over the pack, the startup definitely needs some tweak and gradual transition from quite to rumbling. They are definitely some of the best guys when it comes to sounds.
Also there was a lot of difference when I tested the sounds with different speakers and headphones. Some were too silent and missed important details while did catch all the sounds.
Tried this, not effective for me. Changes all sounds equally, so looking for a method of decreasing only engine or increasing only radio/cockpit. Perhaps this can be done by (engine) sound file manipulation?
Look at my screenshot shown above... my Cliffs of Dover Widows Mixer is very low, this makes I hear properly my collegues on TS and, also, it makes my simulation sound is not excessively loud. Honestly, I see no problem with the sound in this game.
I have to agree that the engine sounds are just way too loud. No other flight sim I've flown, and I've been doing them since the 1990s, has engine sounds this loud - or at least included an option to go in and set it to a comfortable level. It's the thing keeping me from moving on to Tobruk. I like the sim, but I don't want to sacrifice my hearing to play it and turning everything down just to get the engine sounds manageable is definitely a throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bathwater solution.
This is not a new issue. There is no way that I am aware of in SP to independently adjust engine noise lower so that other other sounds (voice comms) can be heard. This may be hard coded within the game engine and not accessible to correct. If that be the case it might just be better to so state.
My raw samples were recorded from my phone (Oneplus 7 pro using an audio recorder app set to 22050Hz stereo). Maybe i just need to record it with different equipment? I also recorded these with my engine in neutral. Maybe i need to try recording while the engine is under load and it might be smoother.

The engine sound under load sounds much better than revving the engine in neutral. This time I tried making a loop out of Raw_Accel_Stereo.wav. There are some artifacts in there from the wind so I started by taking a clean section without wind artifacts and copying that to a new track. Then I added a time track to the project so I could level out the pitch throughout the sample. Made sure the start and end points were zero crossings. Accel_Stereo_Time.wav is the result of this.
