3ds Max file open failed

My max file worked perfecty fine yesterday but today it wont open and I get an error saying file open failed!!
Ive tried opening the autobackups and the same situation occurs. I have been using Autodesk 3ds 2012 version the whole time.

what do I do?

Hi Marina,

Have you been saving versions of your max file? v01, v02, v03, etc. This is very important with Max bacause unfortunately Max files can become corrupt, for no apparent reason.

Have a look in Documents\3dsMax\autoback to see if there is a .bak file and try renaming it to .max. This is most likely the extent to which you will be able to recover your max file.

Same problem happened to me, I saved the file in Max 2012 x64. And now my files does not open, and it is not with 1 file but many of my files got corrupted. Most of my work has been lost, how can max Corrupt files just like that, no error or warning while saving. It never happened to me in any previous versions.
