Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
was asked about the observance of Saum (fasting)
on the day of `Arafah.
He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said,
"It is an expiation for the sins
of the preceding year and the current year.''
[Muslim].

 Commentary

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is called Yaum-`Arafah . On this day, pilgrims stop and stand in prayers at  'Arafat'  which is the most important ritual of Hajj, so much so that Hajj is deemed incomplete without it. On that day, the pilgrims are engaged in the remembrance of Allah and prayers as that is their most important worship on that day. For this reason, Saum is not desirable for them, but for other people, Saum has a special merit. The importance and merit of this Saum can be judged from the fact that it expiates sins for two consecutive years: the previous year and the current year. But these sins relate only to the minor sins, not the major ones, or become a means of elevation of one's status.

Jabal al-Rahmah (the Mountain of Mercy) at Arafah in Saudi Arabia is a historical place not only for Muslims, but also for the entire mankind. After expelling the very first Prophet Adam (pbuh) and his wife, Eva (Eve) from Jannah for non-compliance of His Orders and playing into the hands of Shaitan, Allah Almighty sent both of them down to Earth at different locations in the world. Both were desperate and eager to find each other. After years of frustration, extensive search, travel and prayers for forgiveness, Allah Almighty finally re-united them both together at Jabal al-Rahmah to start a new civilization in this world. The structure in the above picture signifies the first meeting place on Earth for both Prophet Adam and his wife, Eva (May Allah be pleased with both of them).

Jabal al-Rahmah also has a monumental significance for our beloved and the last Prophet of Allah Almighty, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who also chose Jabal al-Rahmah to deliver his final and historical Khutbah while performing his last Hajj on Friday (10 A.H./ March 6, 632 C.E.). Every year millions of Hujjaj and also visitors during the year visit Jabal al-Rahmah to commemorate the historical events in history which took place over there at Jabal al-Rahmah.

Hajj Mabroor to all pilgrims performing Hajj this year! May Allah Almighty accept their Hajj and all their prayers, and also bring  them back home safely. Ameen. Please take full advantage of the great rewards for fasting on the day of Arafah this coming Friday as mentioned above and also notify your family members, friends and all other acquaintances by forwarding this email to them. Thank you so very much for your great and continued support at all time.

May Allah Almighty bless you all.
