Let Bentech celebrate 150th Anniversary of the great amongst all engineers, technologists and scientists of Bengal....

Jagadish Chandra Bose was born on 30 November 1858......

Bose's work actually predates that of Guglielmo Marconi who is most often associated with the development of radio. Unlike Marconi who sought to commercialize his work with radio waves, Bose was purely interested in radio waves as a scientific endeavor.

..... died on 23 November 1937

Dear Goutam,

I am sharing your mail with Bentech friends, rather belatedly...

We congratulate you and wish you all the best. Please post here the transcript or summary of your talk if you wish.

Here is something from today's Hindustan Times:

http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/StoryPage.aspx?sectionName=&id=8d882e3e-8820-4c03-b85d-6dae5a4be615&&Headline=%e2%80%98No+radio+without+Bose%e2%80%99

A century-long debate over who invented the radio may have come to an end. Marconi has given Jagadish Chandra Bose due credit for his pioneering contribution in the field of wireless communication.

Santoshda,
                  Thank you for this. Here is a short write up on Prof. Bose with references for more articles on his work. In 1997, IEEE Microwave society arranged a special session and exhibit on his work at the IMS1997 in Denver. In Dec. 1997 issue of IEEE Tr. on Microwave Theory and Tech. there were quite a few articles about him and his work (and IEEE officially declaring that Bose was the inventor of Radio and Marconi used Prof. Bose's detector for his radio. There is a good artile by Tapan Sarkar on that issue).

Bose institute at Kolkata will be celebrating his 150th. birth anniversary with a symposium from January 14-16 (http://bic.boseinst.ernet.in/seminar/workshop/isomm2008/). I will be giving an invited talk on that occasion, and naturally feeling humble and honored at the same time.

Best wishes.

-Goutam (BEC, ETC, 1987, H-14, Sen).
