I have several boxes of French infantry that I am using to create rifle squads for Bolt Action. The problem is that I have need for only a 2 officers. What to do with all the rest? There is 1 officer for each sprue, so I have lots of unused figures.
You could also use them for sludge armies, other industral fantasy game armies, or armed police for pulp gaming. For history I would say IndoChina war french but thats a no go (they seemed to dress in WW2 allied surplus), could mix them with Boxers and do Warlord era Chinese type troops I suppose.
By modifying just the head, you could evoke many soldiers and policemen (NCOs) of the 1920's, from South America to Poland, via the United States, Ireland, Germany (Schutzpolizei), China and Japan... We are also not far from the cut of British khaki colonial uniforms, from 1890 to 1930 approx. (before shirts or open collars and ties).
Also a pretty good fit for many pulp adventurer types. Pith helmet and heavy rifle = great white hunter. rolled up or ripped sleeve arms and tousled hair = square jawed hero. Fez head (you have spares of those as well) and rifle = well equipped Askari. Turban head and Lee-Enfield rifle = stalwart Sikh.
Making French "gendarmes" is a very good idea. This uniform, with the collar "saxe" or "demi-saxe" is valid from 1916-18 to 1945-48 : first, "bleu horizon", then "bleu de France" (in Mtropole, continental part of France) or "sable" (tan, in Mediterranean areas and colonies). In war-time, military khaki was possible around the fighting zones (eventually with helmets and weapons).
The common "Gendarmes" were all treated as NCOs in the army. They were (an still are) the corps of police in rural areas (gendarmerie dpartementale) and in the Army (Prvt militaire). We can add the corps of "gendarmes mobiles" (hard security tasks : evacuation of areas, actions against riots, insurrections, strikes and violent troubles) : carbines, helmets...
The gaiters and riding pants were in use in all corps of "gendarmerie" before WW2 (the tradition of the corps is Cavalry - silver buttons, braids an marks of ranks). They were not considered as infantry, but as motorized units.
If you can score some Enfield and Sten Gun arms/weapons from the Wargames Atlantic British Commandos kit (or similar) you could use them with the Panzer Lehr bodies as well. The use of captured airdrop arms (Enfields and Sten guns) by Milice forces is well documented.

Extra french toast? This freezes really well, individually wrapped and in an airtight bag. When you want to reheat them, you can either microwave, bake at a 190C (375 F) oven for 8-10 minutes, or my favorite way, just toast the frozen bread in a toaster.
I was just looking at this Sourdough French Toast wishing I had the berries on hand to make this recipe. This has to be one of the most wonderful-looking french toast recipes I have seen in months!!! The next food run we make I will be getting the ingredients needed to make this as I have been avoiding going out unless necessary. I am really looking forward to making this.
Heidy
I had never thought of making french toast with sourdough but this was thoroughly delicious. The dense texture of the sourdough was lovely with the batter, and the flavours all worked together just perfectly. Thank you!
We tried this this morning and it was fantastic. The flour really helped to keep the French toast from being too soggy and it was lighter and fluffier. The only thing I did different was I added a little more cinnamon because I love cinnamon and then I sprinkled powder sugar on top when it was done. I will be making it this way again because it was super easy and came out great!
Parchment paper is key in keeping the fries from sticking and getting the best crisp on the outside while keeping a soft inside. Using foil sometimes causes the fries to stick to the foil and then all that amazing crispiness gets stuck to the foil!
You can use regular salt in replace of seasoned salt. The salt in this recipe is used to create a seasoning for the fries, and only about 1 tablespoon of that seasoning is used to season a portion serving 2-4 people. Hope that helps! ?
Such an amazing recipe! Followed it to a T and the fries turned out amazingly. I have made these numerous time since then, such a family favorite. Thank you for a healthier version of our favorite indulgence. A MUST try.
So glad i found this. Their in the oven as i type! Making fries has never made the house smell so good! This isnt just healthier but money saving. I go through oil SOOOOO fast and the fact that i only need a couple tablespoons is such a relief. I hate dumping oil.
These came out really good. As you stated, making sure the fries are as dry as possible after soaking and not crowding them on the baking sheet are crucial to getting them to crisp up. My favorite part was the seasoning mix, it was delicious on the fries.
-You were right about spacing the fries: I used 3 medium potatoes and split them amongst 2 cookie sheets covered in foil with spray. The sheet with fewer fries crisped up quicker and overall were crispier than the one with more fries.
-You are also spot on with the timing of the seasoning. I seasoned before (1 tbsp; 1 tbsp of oil); during (right after I flipped halfway thru); and after. The flavor was great. I could have used even more (I think it just depends on how much seasoning a person prefers).
Going to try out this recipe tomorrow night! Quick question first, have you ever tried to make garlic fries with using this recipe? I was originally trying to find a recipe specifically for garlic fries but I came across yours first!
