Winter weather is upon us, so be sure to join the team in the water to help make the days pass quickly! Practices have been well attended and some great swimming has been happening. Here are some updates to take into consideration...

- Next Saturday (12/17) the Marauders are hosting a Swimathon from 9:15-11:15. The team will be trying to complete 100-200 laps within 2 hours, and since it will spill over into our time we have been invited to join in if desired. I think that there will be a lane for us Masters, and perhaps some of the older kiddos that are able to keep up with us. :) Please consider a donation to help them during this fundraiser. I am planning to swim; alternatively, the pool will be ours from 11:15-11:55 for an on-your-own workout.

- The MAU Swim Team is also going strong again. Please note that meets will be held on the following Tuesdays: 12/13, 12/27, 1/10, 1/24, 1/27. In the past our practice times have been impacted as these generally end by 8pm. I will not plan to write workouts on these nights, but if you would like to drop in and perhaps wait a bit for a shortened swim you are most welcome.

- Remember that when the area schools are on vacation the pool schedule may change a bit. Please keep an eye out for any posted schedule alterations.

Our workouts will be shifting gears in January as we prepare for our 1 hour swim at the end of the month, and then from February through April the focus will be on gaining speed in preparation for our annual Monumental Masters mini-meet in April.

A Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and cheers for a great New Year! Please feel free to pass this email along to anyone that might benefit from the fun environment we have in the water with our team, and shoot me an email with any comments or questions: mi...@usms.org.

Hello everyone. Just a couple of reminders, as this email contained  many items.

- 12/17 (tomorrow) is the swim-a-thon. A lane will be open at 9:15 for Masters and perhaps some of the faster Marauders. Plan to swim straight through to 100 or 200 lengths of the pool, as the event takes 2 hours. I will be able to get there a little before 10. Please bring a donation for the swim team to help them with this fundraiser. The pool will be open to Masters from 11:15-11:55 for an on-your-own workout.

- MAU swim team meets are posted and will alter our practice times on Tuesday nights. They usually finish the meets around 8pm, so I will not be writing workouts on those nights.

- A reminder from the Rec Center - please be sure that you are taking a shower before entering the pool. Especially during the winter time and our enhanced moisturizing regimens, it is important to be wet before getting in the pool. Thanks for helping to ensure that we are setting a good example for the other folks that use the pool.

Hi Mike, just a fyi
the MAU meet was finished at 6:15 last week, marauders and masters had their regular time slots. So it might be the same for the other Tuesday meets.
Tim and I were the only swimmers.
The water on the other hand was geeenish cloudy salty eew!
So one might not want to swim after 3 teams!!
Cheers

Hello everyone,

The One Hour Swim will be held in two weeks, Saturday, February 11th. Plan to arrive and warm-up a bit. I will begin the swim at 10:45, and as in years past you can choose to swim it in any manner that you would like (straight through, with breaks for water, all kick/pull/stroke, etc.). It's a great challenge that everyone has conquered in the past, so I am looking forward to seeing a good turnout again this year as I record your progress from the side of the pool. (There will be another option to swim towards the end of April for anyone unable to make it).

On a non-swimming note, Greg will be joining a group for a trip to Kenya and is leaving in a couple of weeks. One of the items that the group is trying to bring and leave there are balls (soccer, playground, volleyball). If you happen to have one around the house that can be deflated and would like to send it to Africa, please bring it in to the Rec by our practice on this coming Saturday. Also, if you have a small ball pump with needle, Greg can make good use of it, too.

See you all soon at the Rec.

Thanks, Mike. A few balls are sure to bring big smiles to a bunch of kids in Kenya.

I'll do my 1-hour this Saturday, so wish me luck...

Yes— Good luck, Greg.  If I buy soccer balls at Kmart, …are you able to deflate them?   Carol

Hi Carol, thanks so much. I was really only thinking of gathering up old balls that people had lying around or from Goodwill and so on. But if you feel moved to get a nice new one, I'm sure kids will be really psyched about that; and it should be possible to let the air out and then pump it back up over there. See you tonight? Or Sat?
