I'm looking for some more wisdom from the group. I need to change my cutlass
bearing. I have pulled my prop and ordered a new cutlass bearing. When I got
it I was surprised that it was only a rubber insert. I thought that it might
have been a bronze sleeve with a rubber insert. I have removed my zinc close
to the strut and now I have a clear shaft. I'm wondering if anyone has
pushed the rubber bearing out the back or am I forced to remove my prop
shaft in order to complete this proceedure? I was hoping to drive it out
with a piece of machined pipe and some wood? Thanking you all in advance!

I am surprised that you got just an insert. Frankly I've never seen one like
that. What is supposed to keep it in place?
Which model do you have?
Bill
I should have elaborated more I guess. I have a First 285 and there are two
set screws in the side of the strut that mate with two holes that are
prepunched in the rubber. I know it seems unusual but unless I'm missing
something that is what I've got. I can attach a picture of the strut if
anyone feels that would be more helpful?

That's a new one to me. I guess it must work since it has stayed in all this
time.
