As I have had the same dilemma on my B 361, perhaps I can share some
insight:

First, if you are in salt water, you should determine if it is fresh
water (from your internal tanks, condensation, or A/C) or some form of
raw water from outside of your boat.

I have had leaks from the Hot Water heater pressure relief valve, and
from my aft tank.

If you are sitting in fresh water, (not salt) this task might be a bit
more difficult, but by removing enough panels and some good detective
work (a bright flashlite) you will eventually find the source.

Good luck.

Group :

Our B361 has been getting some water into the bilge & how it's getting
in is a mystery.

So far we have "ruled out" the following possibilities as the source
of the leak...head, sinks, through hull access valves & air
conditioner.

This has left me to suspect the engine & the drive shaft assembly...&
as we have had water (obviously creek water) accumulate under the
engine pan, I'm expecting that the problem is somewhere back in the
mechanical end.

Of course, I'm not too good at such things (although learning fast) so
I was hopeful that one or more of you here may have some ideas about
places for me to look for before she sinks !! ;)

Actually...(yes, I'm kidding) the leak is very slow...but it sure
would be good to know where I might look for something that could be a
common (B361) problem.

My thanks in advance to those who respond.

Paul.

Hi Paul :

It's not that...as we have the rig to drain the condensation out with
the stream of water that cools the boat.

Thanks anyway.

Hi James :

We're in a marina that has lots of fresh (& dirty brown) creek water
for us to float in.

This is why I said it's not from the sinks or the head...as it's water
from outside the boat...of that I'm certain.

Thanks for your thoughts about the hot water pressure relief
valve...I'll check it out !!

Paul,

Check that rig. The Condensator? It need maintenance. Regular filter
cleaning and double check the one way valve. Mine got plugged and it became
a no-way valve.

Paul,
Check the obvious hoses on the engine for rubbing or chaffing.
I usually put paper towels of tissues under / around the suspected small
leaks as a way to pin point the source.
I had a leak around the stern tube, not the Volvo drip less shaft seal, and
it had to glassed from out side on a haul out.
I suspect the cause was a previously haul out putting weight on the skeg.
I'm attaching a picture.
Good luck.

Are 361 masts deck or keel stepped ?

Had the bilge water problem last time I was out. Two weeks ago, about a
mile off the coast of San Diego (Point Loma) when I looked down and
discovered water sloshing thru the floorboards up from the bilge!
Needless to say, I thought I was taking on water. I switched on the
bilge pump, and while it worked, it didn't remove the water. Found out
later that the hose for the pump was clogged with fiberglass bits,
apparently from construction of the boat. I had to clean out the bilge pump
filter 4 or five times.
Anyway to make a long story short, when I got back to the marina, I
tasted the water in the bilge and it was not salty. I noticed the fresh
water pump was running. Diagnosis: Leak in the fresh water system. Turns
out, a hose to the hot water heater came loose spilling about 42 gallons of
fresh water into the bilge! Cleaned it up, and have to replace the fresh
water pump and bilge pump because they ran continiously and burned out.

B 361 masts are deck stepped and use compression posts.

Yep,

I had a similar experience on my First 447 when only a few months
old. I kept finding a lot of water in the engine bilge and water
down in the main bilge. Finally one day everything was quite and I
could hear the water pumping out. One loose hose is all it
took. The cold water inlet on the water heater had only one hose
clamp and a really small one at that. What a place to cut corners.

I had a similar problem.  Turned out the cockpit shower hadn't been completely turned off and was leaking a small amount of water which eventually found it's way to the bilge.  Dave, Nereus V
