Looking at purchasing generator. I know the Honda eu2000i is great.
However, it's price has climbed from 800 to 1k now.

Does anyone have a Kipor ig2000 or know anyone who is using this model
and how it performs. It is supposed to be very good, but I have heard
the honda is really quiet.

I have been looking at other small generators on craigslist and while
I can find several much less expensive, they all are quite noisy from
the comments I get. thanks.

Hi Scott,

I have a Kipor I bought about 3 years ago. Actually I bought 2 of them.

The first was my only bad eBay experience. The seller listed the item as
new, but when I received it the case looked worn and dirty and there were
loose parts in the box. The generator would not start. All of this was the
fault of the seller not the generator. Finally got it returned and
straightened out.

Online I found a company that sells generators online with 1 physical retail
location. The owner assured me the Kipor was a good buy and value. He even
discounted it a bit because he felt bad about my eBay hassle. It came brand
new in a box.

I really like the generator although I do not use it as much as I thought I
would. Most of our outings are 1 or 2 nights and the batteries can handle
that without recharging until back at the dock.

I believe the Kipor is as quiet as the Honda. I compared specs and they
were very similar if not exactly the same. I went to a local dealer and
listened to a Honda run and I feel my Kipor is as quiet. You would really
need to have them side by side to tell.

Not sure why, but the Kipor had some bad responses a while ago from the
list. My Kipor has worked well is quiet and everything I need. If you plan
to use a generator a lot maybe you should consider the Honda because the
quality is unquestioned? I am happy with my choice.

I bought a Kipor 3000w generator from Extreme Gadget in San Diego.
they offer free shipping and I am very please with my Kipor They are
very quiet (just like Honda's) but much better prices. The 2000w is
only 799.

I too am looking at purchasing a Honda eu2000i, but am wondering
whether it would be powerful enough to start my air conditioning
system ( a Mermaid drawing 9.4 A when cooling and 11.4A in reverse
cycle). Has anybody tried and would care to share his experience?
Thank you.

It won't run my water heater and 50A batt charger (when cranking out 35A to a depleted bank) if that's any guide.

I don't think you will have enough power to run much of an AC with 2 KW. We have a 5.5 KW Next Gen and it handles our AC just fine, but it is a diesel powered generator.

I was told by two guys who know their stuff, that anything less than 5.5 KW will cause problems if you are using AC. But, if you have a small boat and equally small AC unit you may be just fine. But be careful. Don't overload the generator!

We just spend a bunch of $$ to follow some advice that I have been meditating on for about 2 years. Being a total dolt, I only believe that something is bad after directly experiencing it's badness! Here is the story:

Our B 473, hull 20, has two switches on the air conditioning source panel, one stating 2nd AC and the other Transfer. We have two 30A receptacles in the transom, one for house and the second (starboard) for AC. When in Transfer position we need only one connection (port plug). That's the one we have been using most of the time during the last two years.

WRONG!

We have burned up a number of plugs, probably 4, and today I decided that enough is enough. We will always be using both plugs when using AC. Fortunately, the Edgewater West Marine has a sale on 40' 30 amp cords. We now have 2 50' and 2 40' new power cords, so we can go bow or stern in and still have a safe power supply.

We have the Honda 2000i on breeze pleeze. It will run the 7000 btu rear berth a/c. wont start the 16000btu
We use it in the summer to cool the stern berth, then shut it off. In the am we use it instead of the inverter since it is on the boat.

I am an infrequent contributor/responder to the list--  My 2cents worth is that the higher the purchase price, the more you take into account the reputation of the manufacturer, regardless of the 10%-50% savings.

I have the 1000 version. I used only 3-4 times no problem. Starts right away sound ok but still too much in a silent anchor. I am not using it any more on the boat though as it is just not convenient. Used it in the house 2-3 times during a block out still worked after the last start of 1 year. Instead I have upgraded my alternator, changed everything to led, I have a 1500w inverter and 450AH battery bank works much better for me. I can cruise 2 days using % 50 of the capacity and 2 hours motoring puts the batteries back to % 90-% 95 (according to my battery monitor) . These generators are not for marine use too risky and not convenient.
