Ahoy,

My 2006 393 skylights have started to leak.  I am looking at various options to address this situation.  Overall the plastic is in reasonable condition.  There is some scratching and wear so replacement might be an option. That said, I don't believe the lights themselves are leaking but rather the sealant around them is likely the culprit. Wondering what others have done, and looking for any do's and don't.
Thanks in advance for your assistance

Hi Neil,
I resealed the light on my 343 and it went quite well.  I did it in the spring under a full frame winter cover so it would be dry and cure.

Basically, peeled all the old sealant out - this took a long time.

Cleaned with alcohol (a guy who used to work at hatchmasters said dont get acetone near the plastic sky light so i listened to him)

Peeled out more old sealant.

Taped off area and resealed.

I used a Dow 795 sealant which has great flex properties.

Has not leaked a drop in 5 years.

First, thank you both for bringing up this issue as I'm having similar problems with the windscreen on my Beneteau 323. I did find what I hope will be a useful guide. It's a PDF on the Sailboat Owners website. (https://forums.sailboatowners.com/threads/have-any-of-you-changed-out-a-beneteau-323-windscreen.190616/#post-1445264)

And thanks for the tip about NOT using Acetone.
Cheers.

Just a note on the Acetone reference.  The hatchmasters guy said the issue is - yes, it is a great cleaner but the liquid as well as even the fumes/vapor will ultimately cause premature crazing of your plastic windows.  So when resealing and the window is still in, using acetone to clean the area increases the risk of premature crazing.   As always, I'm sure somebody may not agree but that was enough for me to not use acetone so alcohol was my choice.
