Hi All,
working to  replace my cutlas and shaft seal, i found some crevice corrosion on the prop shaft inside the stern tube which though minor now, i'll need to replace.

Question is - once the prop is off and the coupling plate is off - is it possible to remove the shaft around the engine or from the stern tube aft w/o removing the rudder?

Thanks !  BTW, a new prop shaft is about 12-14 weeks out for delivery !

You should be able to get a prop made locally in a matter Of a week or so.

Be sure to use aqua met material.

Take the boat out of the water ,drop the rudder ,remove coupling and key ,pull the shaft out ,may as well replace the cutlass bearing while you have the shaft out if there’s movement

The prop shaft should slide by the rudder. Tight however I doubt you will need to remove the rubber

Hi Tim,

I have a beneteau first 345 (1985)....looking to remove shaft also....Were you able to remove the shaft without taking off the rudder?
I measuring things on my boat and its close...if it can do a slight bend, it may go along side the rudder...wondering if you were successful with that?
Regards,Bert

I recently removed the shaft on my 370 to replace the cutlass bearing and shaft seal. On this model, there was no issue with the rudder.

Just a reminder that if you are not replacing the shaft seal (volvo dripless??) that when you remove the shaft you should insert a plastic sleeve around the shaft and into the first inch of the seal.  This prevents any rough spots on the shaft from damaging the seal when it is removed.

On my 423, replaced cutlass brg etc but had to drop rudder ( and replace bushings on same to reduce ‘slop’ in movement. Worth it.
