Has anyone had experience with Conch Charters BVI. Prices are good, but wondering about the old saying "you get what you pay for."

We have used Conch Charters 5 times over the last several years. Their
boats are older, not shiny and new like Moorings or as good as we keep
our own boat, but generally they are pretty well maintained. In our 5
charters with them, we've only had one small issue which they were
very quick to correct. Shoreside facilities are a little rough, but
that's not what you are there for. We've always found their staff to
be friendly, helpful and efficient. They may not be for everyone, but
we would definitely use them again on our next charter.

Chartered with them a dozen times or so but not in the past few years
as I've been cruising. They are great, the boats are older but the
service was good. Have heard that lately the service has slipped but
it may have been just one disgruntled charterer. If I remember right
they kept his deposit but he had tangled the dink painter in the prop
and returned the boat without filling up the fuel. He admitted this
after a dozen posts. This charterer and his girlfriend plastered the
internet with complaints . They did a tag team thing so you thought
it was a bunch of unsatisfied customers. I think it was his first
charter. In any event if I were to charter today I would go with them
again.

Rick,

I don't recall ever having to top up the tanks to get my deposit back when using Sunsail, Footloose, Bimini Charters, Paradise  or La Vida.  I thought fuel was included in the charter fee.

Is that something unique to Conch Charters or did I miss something?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for info about Conch Charter. We ended up booking with BVI Charters. They have a 2008 B46, 2 cabin with gen and AC... just right for the 4 of us....and about the same price as a Sunsail 41.

Rick, I wondered if this was a rare report. I saw very similar posts from 2 disgruntled charters on 4-5 different review sites. Overall, the reviews from Conch were positive. We were about to book their 473 until we saw the B46.

Bruce, most I just checked with had a flat fee. BVI Charter had a flat fee except for those with gen and AC.  Then it was top the tank.  Mark

We just completed a charter with Horizon Charters at Nanny Cay. Great experience. Every thing went well. Just like to report a few things: They will take the boat to the fuel dock and hand it over to the assigned skipper there. When returning, you are to go to the fuel dock again. You have to top of diesel fuel and water which incudes the dingi. So you need oil because it's a 2 cycl engine. Then a Horizon representave will take the boat to the slip. I guest too many charterer crashed?

In the "olden days" you got one tank of fuel with the charter. (if
you chartered with Bimini, Paradise and La Vida, you're like me who
remembers the "olden days" around the mid to late eighties. :) ) Since
the price of fuel has gone through the roof most companies require you
to bring the boat back with a full tank. Another note on that
disgruntled charterer with Conch, I think the dink line in the prop
did some damage to the shaft.
