Looking at  converting the cabin ceiling lights to led on our 361. Does anyone have an LED Model number that fits the existing lights?
And once you replace the bulb does the cover go back on?

Thanks

Lynn,
Marinebeam are the greatest.  I believe Jeff is on the list.
They fit and are brighter than halogens they replace.  Yes the cover lens fit however the reflector has to go.
Search the site and contact them for advice.

Be sure to get at least one of his dimmers. I think abt $40 including wireless remote. You can run several lights on one dimmer.

Do you have a recommendation on the 6 or 10 led unit?

Thanks

Lynn,
Definitely go with the 10 LED ones.

Thanks to everyone for the advice on these LEDs. I have just ordered some for my 351 here in Sydney Australia. I was having trouble finding any local versions that were bright enough.

This forum is so cool for help like this!

Cheers

Regarding the lens, do not replace it. Although you may be able to get it to fit, it will heat up the LED and cause early failure. We have 9 LEDs in our salon and 2 more in our fwd cabin and after lots of use for over 5 years, all are doing just fine. We have 2 12 element lights over the sink and the rest are 6 LED units. The really bright bulbs over the sink are great and the smaller ones work fine over the settee.

I didn't know about the 10 element lights. BTW, Marine Beam is the route to go. Excellent service and good products.

You say lens, do you mean the silver reflector? Or the clear lens you see when looking at the fixture

Mark,
The reflector has to come out no matter what LED unit you use.
It comes right out with a little tug with a needle nose pliers.
I have the 6 LED units and put back the cover lens with no problems.
The cover lens will fit I guess Cap has some concern about, but I don’t and have not had a problem.
Ask Marinebeam if you are concerned.

The marine beam bulbs fit fine with the reflector in place.

I removed some at first and regretted it as the light was not very good.  Not that it was better with the reflectors in, but at least I could revert to halogen if desired.

The clear glass lens should not be replaced. The LED won't fit with the silver reflector in place.

While on the subject of lights we have those round chrome reading lights. Any recommendations on LEDs for these?

The boat is in Mazatlan and we are working on our list of stuff to take back this fall from BC

Thanks

Guess it depends on the fixture... the aquasignal with peanut halogen will most certainly accept the G4 marinebeam 6 leds bulbs that they recommend.  351-352-351 et al used this standard fixture.

The clear glass lens is plastic and has fresnel type surface to diffuse the light.  Some turn brown due to heat of old halogens, esp those that were upgraded to 10watt.

In any event, either they fit or they don’t'... if they do leave the reflector in place.

We converted all of the interior overhead halogens with the soft white version of these LED's:  http://store.marinebeam.com/g4ledsmdpocl.html

They are a little pricy but operate over a wide voltage range.  The ten-LED model is much brighter that the old halogens and I installed an inline dimmer for the three main cabin fixtures.  Yanked the reflector shield and the lense was re-installed on each fixture.  We haven't had any problem after two years.

Still looking for a way to convert the silver reading lamps too and/or finding a suitable LED replacement.

Go to marine beam's web site and check it out. If you don't see what you need, give them a call.

I have replaced our reading lights with LEDs from this outfit. They work just fine, so far!

Today I ordered a replacement LED fixture for over the stove. Looking forward to getting the brute.

Check out this page:

I have 3 of the old version and one new one for our chrome swivel reading lights. They work fine.

The 'Old Version' has about 20 little round LED bulbs. The new one is as depicted with flat LEDs that put out much more light. Mo betta, bro ...

Has anyone had any issues with the replacements for the mast head or the 25 watt bow lamps? I've replaced them with the LED models and have a bad buzz on the VHF that breaks the squelch and makes the radio inoperable. All the other lights through out the cabin are fine with no noise or problems. It's just the two big ones. I thought it was just the proximity of the lamp to the antenna on the mast but when I had it off and turned the bow light on ( which is a long way from the VHF or the antenna ) it too made the radio go crazy. Would it help if I put a choke on the line feeding the light at the bow?

that is a good question for Jeff at MarineBeam,

LED have some electronics involved to make them work,  not all LED are created equal,  there is a lot of substandard crap out there

I use Marine Beam LED's throughout the boat and have no interference issues with VHF nor HF.
marinebeam.com has a wide range of information for boaters.

Hi Jim:

How does one use this dimmer to the LED on the B361 halogen replacement?
Just plug in the LED to the halogen receptacle and use the dimmer?
Or need a connection for control?

Thanks.
