is Silkaflex a beding compound, does it dry hard...

for port installs it is better to use a sealant which is soft and pliable...

make a bead around the port and gently install the port making sure the bead makes contact with both surfaces... secure BUT DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN fasteners... this way the initial contact makes a gasket after it cures... ONLY after sealer has cured, finish tightening fasteners... at this point two seals will have been formed... one seal from contact adhesion... the other is a pressure seal has been formed by the gasket which can be re tightened as the seal ages

I live in Florida. Max heat.  I had a 390 - big windows. I've tried them all: Sikaflex, Dow, you name it.  The best?  GE SSG4000.  Sikaflex's adhesion didn't hold up after repeated expansion/contraction cycles.  Never had a problem with GE.

You may consider Dow 795. It has a different thickness than Sika.

Sika 295 is very thin and does not cling well. HARDER to squeeze into the gap.

From experience 295 is not easy to work with and you MUST use their expensive primer.  Be sure to prine  the edge of the glass. That is the area that leaked for me as I did not get that area covered well enough with the bonding agent.

795, IMO, is easier to work with and bonds better.

This job is a little different. This is a skylight, there is nothing to screw in or clamp down, it just rests on gasket. We will apply Silkaflex to top of gasket which acrylic will rest on. Will have suction cups on the bottom of acrylic and will weight acrylic down from suction cups. Then we will do the caulking around the edge.

I strongly suggest you get the instructions from Beneteau. Ask Todd

I also did the sky lights in my 400 no fasteners

You need to use a bonding tape build a bead between two bonding tapes.

Seal the lens into place. Let it cure . Test it for leaks.

Then you fill the cavity with a sealant like silicone.

It is not a simple as you think.  I suggest you need to follow prove system.

Remember the seal is on bottom ledge which must remain flexible and about 10 mm in thickness.

Fletch,
You never mentioned bonding tape in your previous posts. What is it and what do you need it for?

Two purposes

Holds the lens high enough to form a thick gasket
The lens will flatten the material before it cures. You want a 10mm height and 10  mm width to the bead.

Keeps the runny Sika from running all over your interior

How does the tape keep the Silkaflex from running?
This is really a flat surface, so don't know how it will run.

The tape is thick 8 plus mills it builds a bread up and when it skims you place the lens down.

Beneteau suggest spacers and filling the SPACER holes after

Do you self a favour and get the instructions fro. BENETEAU

I have a rubbers gasket about 1in or more in width with a channel down the middle that the acrylic rests upon.
Did you have this piece or did you remove it?

Yes it was the same set up. A little tricky to get back in place. In my case a put a nice bead of Dow 795 on the corner and finished that way

Leaking.  Remember the importance of the painted area on the lens. It is there to protect the bond from UV which breaks down the adhesive sealant.

To a job with Sika 295uv you need at the least one tube of 295 and one can on 209. About 110.00 vesus Dow 795 which is about 15.00.

Now that your boat is safe I can reply.

You are right about Silkaflex being more expensive. Actually, much more expensive.
You need to buy: activator, primer, cleaner and product.

I used Silkaflex and it looks great and doesn't leak!

One big problem over, others pending, like leaking port. It never stops!

Bill
