Our 400 has two VDO Water tank senders, the fwd seems to be
inoperative, in looking at the VDO sender it seems to be very
expensive to replace. IS there any experience within the group, is
there any way that these unit could be repaired, it is not a float on
an arm but rather a float on two rods which somehow measures the
impedance. Does anybody know an outlet for one these babies under 200
US $.

Fletch - the best non NMEA 2000 senders are made by Wema.
http://www.wema.com/?page=415
I have used them many times on our boat and on clients boat... they do work
all the time, are not costly... I would think for your water tanks both
senders would be under $100.00 total shipped. You need to be sure and know
what ohm set you need to order to match your VDO gauge or order new gauges
to match. New gauge is not a lot of money either. The original VDO
senders are xxxx, all fail, but never have I seen a Wema fail.

Hope this helps. I do not have any affiliation with WEMA just a customer.

Hello:

I'm looking for a particular water gauge sending unit made by VDO The
VDO part number is:

N02 240 402

I don't see this sending unit on your website, but wonder if you can
order it through your contacts at VDO?

Thanks!

Pallo:

Did you replace the water sender, will it lift out of the tank and clear the
bottom of the drawer.

Thanks

Mine is an Oceanis 40cc - not sure if the arrangement is exactly the
same as the 400, but I had no trouble getting it out or installing the
new one. I replaced both the fore and the aft tank sending units, as
well as the gauge, just for grins. All work perfectly now.

Fletch,

I got the test method from VDO Germany (VDO USA had not a clue), and
ohmed mine to find it was a bad sensor. Bought a new one for >$200
(at the peak of the Euro), and it lasted less than 6 months. I
suggest just getting a SCAD unit from www.cruisingsolutions.com

Jeff:

I am looking into the WEMA solution, they make a 10-180 water sender, not
sure yet if the US guys stock the VDO impedance, if so it should drop in the
hole and work with all of the existing wiring. I had a Wema sender on my old
CD36 and it worked great. I replaced the fuel sender and it did not last two
years, not sure if the topped up diesel all winter killed it but the VDO's
do not seem to last too long.

The Wema sender is 40.00 just got get the correct impedance.

Seems like a good deal. I need to check that too.

Get the WEMA senders they are best on the market and the least expensive.

Yes the Wema USA will have he correct ohm set, or change out the gauge too.

Yes $40 is about right, I pay less as I get wholesale prices being in the
business. You won't go wrong with wema senders.

I finally have the WEMA sender on order for the forward tank in our
OC400. It measured about 16" so I went with a 15" 10-180 ohm to match
the VDO spec's. WEMA had one in stock, seems the 10-180 are a little
more expensive at 55.00 US$ however a far cry from the 185.00 for a
VDO replacement.

WEMA is helpful if you can get them to answer their phone.

Glad you were able to save some money and IMHO end up with a much better
product at the same time. Wema has a small staff in the Ft Lauderdale
office and that may be why they did not answer the phone right away. They
sell less of the 10-180 here in the US so that must be why they cost a
littler more. I am sure you will be happy with this replacement. Let us
all know how it works once you get it installed.

Over the last 4 - 6 weeks I have lost the Engine Vent Cover.
The upside down scoop thing that slips over the vent outlet on the
transom.
351's have 3 of them for some reason.

I have had this come off a few times before
A stern line catches it and it usually bounce onto the swim platform.
This time either the wind blew it off the swim platform or it bounced
twice and into the water.
Its gone.

I wonder if anyone has any idea where to get a replacement?
I looked it up on the Beneteau Part site and I haven't call Ward yet.
The P/N 053290 lists for $77.84
So I'm looking for ideas to source it elsewhere for less.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Jamestown Distributors sells the Perko ones - chrom-ish looking - about $30

Probably a different method of securing them.

They are 4" x 3 3/4"

Thanks Mark, I'm still looking.
I think I'll try asking around the Bay Bridge Boat Show this weekend.
