Sooo...I put my boat in gear after raising the anchor on Sunday and it wouldn't go past about 1,000 RPM without making a *tremendous* vibration. Sending a crewmember below, without a mask, revealed that he could only feel two of the three blades which should be attached to my Gori 3-blade folding / feathering prop that we've been using for the past 6 years. So, the working theory is that we've lost a blade on the Gori prop. Contacting Gori revealed that to get the prop fixed would require sending it to the dealer in RI, for them to send it back to the factory to replace the blade and dynamically balance it (presumably time-consuming). So, I could pull the Gori and slap on a regular prop for the meantime, except that the Beneteau dealer told me I wouldn't fiind one in the local chandleries and Beneteau says they don't have them in stock and it usually takes 6-8 weeks to special order them. I, of course, can't find the old fixed-blade prop I replaced with the Gori.
Now, half of this list has replaced their OEM prop, so, does anyone have a prop that would fit a 1997 Oceanis 351? It's a right-hand prop for a 25mm tapered shaft, I think 16", but I also think 15" might do. |
I am looking to replace my 4D batteries. I want wet cells, lower initial cost. However, I can't seem to get them. West Marine does not sell 4D wet cells and my local Marina wants to sell me Deka Marine Master heavy Duty Commercial service 4D's. However, the manufacturer claims that this battery is a starting battery, and I want a deep cycle.
Would an auto supply store carry 4D's or is there some other source. I assume shipping them would be too expensive ( I need 4).
Any suggestions?
Bill
Have you considered golf cart batteries? They are designed for brutal
working conditions and are very affordable- I just installed 4 220ah
as one big 440ah house bank and the cost including tax was just about
$300 - obviously it's too soon for any conclusions on my part, but as
I say, they have been designed for brutal conditions and abuse by
their owners -

It is better to be a cowardly sailor with a boat than a macho sailor without one
I love mine. Now I even yell "Fore" instead of "Starboard" at port tackers.

P.S. Mine have been lasting over 8 years with no special care.

They have dealers all over... go to marine to find a battery ( SRM 4D are
their best deep cycles (wet)... )... they have wet cells and are mfg for the
Optima as well. Good national network of dealers (for warranty service)
