I am planning a trip from annapolis to ct and was hoping to go thru this canal.

someone mentioned to me that the canal's bridges are 4' lower due to some construction, but that was a bit old info he had.

my mast is at 57, pretty sure that does not include vhf and annemometer.

If someone knows the current height, and tidal range I would be very appreciative of that info.

thanks.

Scott,

The nominal clearance of the fixed Cape May Canal bridge is 55 ft. If it is lowered by 4” due to construction then there is no way your 57’ mast (sans antennae and wind instruments )  will go through there.

Going around cape May is not difficult but is somewhat counterintuitive.

If that is your option then I can help you from experience.

Bill

Scott, Bill gave us guidance on that particular passage 4-5 years ago. Pay attention and with good weather there is no drama.

You will never use the Cape May Canal.  My mast was 52' and the antenna hit every beam on the railroad bridge.

Heel the boat.

It’s easy to get heel... using a halyard, hanging the dingy on a bridle amidships will get it over... fill the dink with water if you need more heel. Assuming an inflatable.
