The 473 has provisions for a solent rig. Check to see if there is a pad aft of the anchor locker for the deck fitting. If so, there will be a tang near the masthead to accept the head fitting. Being near the masthead negates the need for running backstays.

You might want to call Beneteau and ask Ward about it. They probably have a kit like they do for the 473.

Is possible to remove the baby stay if we install an inner forestay on a 473??

You can't get rid of it totaly. When beating in moderate to strong wind with good waves you still need it to prevent pumping. Otherwise I store it along the shrouds.

Michel,

How did you set up the baby stay to be removable ? I am installing a
spinnaker pole and would love to be able to disconnect and reconnect
it....

Hi

What I did is that I kept the babystay and mast attachement but cut it
shorter at bottom and used a Sta-Loc fitting on the end. Don't remember the
exact size but there was a little challange there since the babystay was
metric size. Sorry but that was done 5 years ago. To this I rigged a 4:1
tackle ( Lewmar 80mm + Spectra or Vectran rope). When in function it
shackles to the same chainplate as the innerstay. When not used it stays
alongside shrouds. Finaly the rope is lead thru organiser on roof then to
Spinlock and winch is used to tension.

Because of where it is rigged, just aft of anchor locker, even when rigged
it does no keep me from storing a 10' Caribe on deck. So honestly after
planning and rigging all that, it spends most of the time set ready with
minimum tension. When I need it I just tension it. It still nice to be able
to take it out of the way and also play with the tension.

I did attach two good picture of the set up but they might be to big for
what this site allows.

Let me know if any other questions or if this is not clear enough.

excellent, thats similar to what I was thinking however my baby stay
is attached to the boat only 3 feet from the mast. I think the boat
attachment is just a padeye and the wire attachement looks like a sta-
loc (after googling it). I was thinking of putting a swivel snap
shackle and attach it to the babystay then I can disconnect and
reconnect when gybing the pole... lifting the babystay over the pole
should be easy...

however the babystay isnt very tight right now and adding the lenght
of a snap shackle might make it too loose to be effective for whatever
it does, heard its inversion of the mast... did you attach the sta loc
yourself ? are there tools to cut this type of wire clean ? and last
what loads would a baby stay like this see ?

Our boat is a 361 99

thanks

There is a well around the stuffing box, where the shaft goes down through
the hull on my 323. Which, by the way, is under the floorboard and matress
in the rear berth.

I noticed a couple of times water in that well. Last weekend I noticed
water in it again. About an inch. Is this normal?

I did install the Sta-Loc myself and did cut the stay with a good blade on a
hack saw. I guess a zip cut blade on a grinder would do. I wouldn't use any
wire cutters that could crush the strands.
I have no real numbers to give as for load. But from what I saw the worst
load is seen if you let it on the loose side and you let the mast pump a
little bit then there is like a wipping effect and severe sudden load on the
rigging.
