It seems to be more than a rumor that "Lady Victoria" (Beneteau 57) has at least partially sunk in Mexico very recently.
I have absolutely NO direct knowledge of the partial sinking, but I am very interested because of the partial sinking of my 411
in '05.
Should be able to get information from any Californians with a boat in the "91 Day Yacht Club" in Mexico (usually Coral Marina
in Ensenada.
Anyone have solid information?  Too many rumors already "floating" around...

I don't know the name of the boat, but I do know the owner. He had
just purchased the boat and it was in Ensenada. It is now being towed
back to Marina del Rey for repairs.

No news yet on what caused the sinking...

I heard that it was a failure of the manifold for the air
conditioning. Once the manifold failed water came in via the thru
hull that it was attached to (and left open). What a bummer. I
think of how often I have forgotten to close a the through-hull on my boat.

I remember seeing that boat up in Marina Del Rey. Really pretty boat.

Daryl,
I recall some mails about the outhaul on one of your boats. I am having
trouble with the outhaul line fraying on our 46. It looks to me that the
diameter of the sheave / pulley at the end of the boom is too small and this
allows the line to rub against a part of the end cap which is rivited into
the boom. Is this similar to a problem you had?

Hi Joe,

Your assessment is right in concept but the wrong part. The sheave
size is not the problem as there is no room in the sheave box for a
bigger sheave. But it is the insert from the sheave box that is
incorrect. I was sent a new sheave box and upon looking at it, I
simply filed out my old box to match and the problem was solved. It
was my Ben 40 with a furling main that had the problem. The sheave
box for the furling main from US Spars is modified from the
non-furling classic main.

I have attached a picture of my outhaul and you can see where it rubs
and you can actually see the template on where it should have been
cut out for. All I did was to take off the outhaul line, drill out
the insert (you can see where it should be), finished filling the
cutout so it was smooth and the line no longer rubs.

Hope this helps. If this explanation is not clear let me know at
dda...@usc.edu and I can email you more directly or give you a call.

Thank you Daryl, I think this is exactly my problem. I appreciate the
insite and once again see how valuable this list can be.

Regards,
Joe
