I am racing the Leadville 100 MTB race this coming August. 105 miles from ranging from 10,000 to 12,500 feet above sea level. I will be racing as a member of the Chris Klug Foundation.
If you don’t know Chris Klug, he is from Bend and graduated from Mtn View High School. For a period of time we both raced for Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation – Chris was a snowboarder and I was an alpine skier. Chris went on to become a three-time Olympian. After receiving a liver transplant in 2000, Chris won a bronze medal at the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics. In 2003, he launched the Chris Klug Foundation – raising awareness for tissue and organ donation.
Currently there are over 100,000 people in the U.S. who are awaiting a lifesaving transplant. Every day 17 of these people die waiting for their turn for their transplant. And every eight minutes, someone new is added to that waitlist. Just one person has the ability to save up to eight lives as an organ donor and improve up to 75 lives through tissue and eye donation.
First, I’m asking each of you register as an organ donor. In Oregon, this should be listed on your driver’s license (heart icon on the front and a “Anatomical Donor” designation on the back). Second, please consider a tax deductible donation to support the Chris Klug Foundation here: https://runsignup.com/Race/130532/Donate/98GXSKV1wLue6JC5
