With the time change happening yesterday, that means Hammerfest is going to start up again!  From now until October, Hammerfest will be happening at the usual 5:30pm start time, weather and smoke depending.  Tomorrow looks quite iffy with weather, but everyone has their own tolerance for temps.

Also, for March, Tumalo Res Rd is closed for construction, so an alternate route option through Tumalo will be used, turning the normal route into an out an back, with a turn around point at the west end of Inness Market at Hwy 20.  Once Tumalo Res Rd is back open, we will resume the normal route.

From now until the fall, assume this ride is happening weekly if the roads are dry and the air is clear (same route, same time).

For those new to the hammerfest ride and curious what it is all about, it is a weekly Tuesday drop group road ride that runs mid-spring to mid-fall (weather dependent). The group is anywhere from 10-60+ riders depending on the week, and is self organized with no single group leader.  This is not an organized race and is on open roads, so please do not ride in a way that endangers yourself or the group.  Also, since this is just a grassroots friends riding together thing, you assume all responsibility for yourself by showing up.

We meet at the top of Shevlin Park on the north side, at the intersection of Bull Springs Rd (https://goo.gl/maps/GJnBRxUxGQ8ahLrv9) and roll out at 5:30pm sharp.  This is the route: https://www.strava.com/segments/9421236. There are a few sprint points along the way, most notably at the stop sign ahead signs right before the hwy crossing at end of Tweed and before we cross Cline Butte Hwy.  There is also one on the run into Tumalo.  The climb back to Shevlin from Tumalo is all out.  This is a fun, fast, and safe group, but it is a drop ride so please plan on no real regroupings and to be self sufficient.  That said, as a group we strongly encourage chilling out at the hwy crossings to cross safely, and not drilling it once crossed until for sure all members of the group you are in is across the highway.

Also, there is no one right way to ride the hammerfest group ride.  We are all out to have fun while challenging ourselves and each other.  That often results in many forms of how the ride is ridden.  For some, they are aiming to make it a little further than last time, others are looking to test their sprinting, some are looking to improve their pack riding efficiency, etc.  Come out and push yourself, whatever your goals are.

See you out on the road soon. Have fun, stay safe, and ride fast!
Kindly,
Matt

* This is a group of friends getting together for a ride, this is not an official event.  By showing up and participating, you take full responsibility for yourself and your actions and fully accept the risks of riding in a group and on open roads.
