Our church hike is this weekend! However, in my last email I forgot to mention the time. Let's meet at the trailhead at 2:45pm on Sabbath. There is a bit of a drive over some dirt roads to get there, so make sure to give yourself enough time.

I want to try to squeeze one last church hike in before winter sets in. My previous email said that date would be on October 25, but I found out that it would conflict with the Hallelujah Party at the Brussett's. As a result I am moving the hike to October 18... THIS weekend! This is weather permitting, so watch you email to ensure that the hike is still on! I rarely cancel unless the weather looks truly awful, so it is likely that we are going forward with it.
The hike will be to Alder Springs. This rather boring name hides a spectacular hike down into the Wychus Creek Canyon and across the stream to some bubbling springs in a desert oasis. The hike is 3 miles round-trip with an elevation loss of almost 400-ft. At the bottom of the canyon we will need to ford the creek, so bring separate sandals or water shoes! The creek should be about a foot deep.
Directions: HWY 20 west towards Sisters for 10.5 miles. At MP 8 turn right onto Fryrear Road. Go 5.5 miles to the intersection with HWY 126 and continue straight across to Holmes Road. If you are coming from Redmond you can turn right onto Holmes Road from HWY 126. Follow Holmes to MP 7 and turn left onto FS Road 6360. In 150 yards go straight past the Alder Springs signboard and travel 4 bumpy miles to the Alder Springs sign. Turn right for 0.7 miles of rough road to the trailhead.
