Good morning and Happy Sabbath!
Our early spring has definitely encouraged many to get out and start enjoying all that Central Oregon has to offer. I have been out exploring as well... With the extremely low snow levels this year, the Cascades will be available for hiking much earlier!
I am scheduling a Church Hike for Sabbath, May 30 after church! I don't know exactly where we are going yet, but I have some suggestions. These include a few that I have never been to before:
1. Whychus Canyon Preserve northeast of Sisters: 3.4 mile loop in the Whychus Canyon Preserve.
2. Scout Camp Trail: 3 mile loop to the confluence of the Deschutes River and Whychus Creek at Crooked River Ranch.
3. Flatiron Rock (Badlands): Easy 6 mile round-trip hike to a rock shaped like a crusader castle in the Badlands Wilderness.
4. Metolius River: 5.4 mile round-trip (could be 2.7 with car shuttle) along the amazing Metolius. Goes to the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery.
5. Black Butte: 4.4 mile round-trip climb to the top of the butte with an amazing view.
6. Tumalo Creek Canyon: This is a trail upstream from Shevlin Park and rarely receives traffic.
7. Mill Creek: Trail along the rushing creek northeast of Prineville.
What's your pleasure? We are blessed with so many opportunities here!
Let's get hiking!
Michael Peterson
