Greetings again!
I need to add an addendum to my church hike announcement. I didn't find this out until this morning. The last 2 miles or road to the trailhead requires a high-clearance vehicle! Sorry I didn't get that out sooner!

It is time for another summer adventures:
Hike to Echo Basin with bonus of Hackleman Old Growth Trail:
Sabbath 8/5/17, after church we are going on a hike! These two trails are both fairly short, but promise great scenery. Echo Basin is a mountain meadow in a box canyon, hopefully with a few wild flowers still hanging around. The Hackleman Old Growth Trail is a short hike through towering Douglas Firs. The first trail is a 2.4 mile loop with around 600-ft of elevation gain. The second is a short 1 mile loop with virtually no elevation change.
Both hikes are just west of the Santiam Pass and I estimate it will take 1 hour (maybe a little less) to get there from Bend. Since it is a bit further from town, I suggest planning on leaving very soon after church. Let's plan on meeting at the Echo Basin trail head at 2:30pm. To find it, drive west of Sisters on HWY 20 and over Santiam Pass. Stay on HWY 20 towards Sweet Home. Near milepost 67 turn north at a sign for "Echo Basin Trailhead". Drive on gravel road 055 for about 2 miles and park on the shoulder by a sign.
We can travel to the second hike together since it is just a bit further west on HWY 20.
I strongly suggest bringing a picnic supper since we will be an hour from Bend. I would also suggest plenty of water and bug-spray. I don't think the mosquitoes will be bad, but I've been mistaken before!
